Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : We're Back (after 34 hours)
posted by DaveyD on 4-Sep-2004 0:54:52 (5062 reads)
Our server's harddrive had developed lots of damaged blocks, this caused the server to crash and corrupt lots of data, luckily most of these corrupted files were system files and not website or database files, the site had only lost some avatar images.

It took our server provider Server4you.com 34 hours to replace the broken harddrive, we could have been online with in 4 to 5 hours had support been quicker to respond, I am now looking for some sort of compensation from them for the downtime.

A big thank you to Sibbi for his help in backing up and restoring the files and services.

(Not all sub sites, email accounts etc are up yet. And there's some server tweaking that needs to be done. So bear with us while we get things sorted)

Good to see the (Amiga) World turning again !

AmigaOneProductions very nearly disappeared last week, the ISP were threatening to pull the plug due do excessive bandwidth use, after serving 40Gig of videos in just two days, personally I take that as a compliment as it means that the site is popular, and some people think that the Amiga is dead

Great to be back.

I guess with the long downtime and the poll thats now running, the European server will be setup somewhat sooner now.

Hi DaveyD

Glad to see the site back up, one problem! (well 2 really) the SEAL and more importantly Total Amiga websites are not back up yet. When you enter the URL it goes to Amigaworld.net every time!

Any chance of sorting this soon mate?

@sicky

Ok they're both back online, please check them for missing files.

Email and ftp accounts will take a bit longer

I have 2 accounts with webfusion. If you want website backups/mirrors set up let me know and I will sort it out FOC. (Got about 2 GB I can spare).

Websfusion are the UK's biggest host (part of host europe, now owned by pipex), excellent data centre, brilliant tech support.... not the cheapest in the world but you get what you pay for.

"Ok they're both back online, please check them for missing files"

Yep, looks fine here, had a quick look through & can't see anything obvious missing!

Thanks for all your great work

Good to see the site back. After only 24hrs I was tired of the trolling on other sites!

There appears to be something wrong with the images for the "pinkish" news window frames, like for this item. Some corruption, maybe?

Oh, and BTW, the news should read "bear with us" not "bare"! Much as I like you lot, I'm not going to be joining in with any group "baring", ok?
