Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : We're Back (after 34 hours)
posted by DaveyD on 4-Sep-2004 0:54:52 (5059 reads)
Our server's harddrive had developed lots of damaged blocks, this caused the server to crash and corrupt lots of data, luckily most of these corrupted files were system files and not website or database files, the site had only lost some avatar images.

It took our server provider Server4you.com 34 hours to replace the broken harddrive, we could have been online with in 4 to 5 hours had support been quicker to respond, I am now looking for some sort of compensation from them for the downtime.

A big thank you to Sibbi for his help in backing up and restoring the files and services.

(Not all sub sites, email accounts etc are up yet. And there's some server tweaking that needs to be done. So bear with us while we get things sorted)

Hehehe - that sums it up pretty well.

I don't miss all the backbiting, snarky comments, etc. on two of the other Amiga-related sites that I dropped in on out of sheer desperation - and I had almost forgotten how bad it could be... no chance of following a thread, understanding the implications of a news item, etc.

AW.net - please don't go away again...ever! And moderators - you're doing a fantastic job irrespective of what other sites may say, and I wouldn't like to see anything change

DaveyD is to blame

And he knows the reason why the server crashed, don't you!
the server is female, and in public http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/index.php?storytopic=23 DaveyD has suggested that he's going to DUMP her for a younger European model
So she's just gone and had a Hissiefit and stomped out, thus bringing down AWN.

DaveyD remember next time treat with kid gloves, until you have the European model in your grasp, then drop her like a ton (tonne) of bricks.

Glad your back up with no real problems.

Andy
