Software News   Software News : Free Amiga version of CYCAS
   posted by Severin on 5-Apr-2005 18:45:25 (6497 reads)
Just send an email to info@cycas.de asking for the free amiga version of CYCAS and a couple of days later you should receive a reply with a link and serial number in it.

Don't forget to ask if there will be a native OS4 version

I got my copy today and so far it works perfectly on OS4.

One slight glitch I've found:

If you change the font, don't use one with a space in the name, eg. don't use 'Bitstream Vera Sans' instead copy the .font and .otag files to ram:, rename them to remove the spaces, copy them back to fonts: then you can use 'BitstreamVeraSans' and all is well

Hi

Please can s.o. post a screenshot of Amiga OS running CYCAS?

This free version is it the same public version which is available for LINUX and Windows?

I would lik eto see the professional version to AOS4 with export feature to the upcoming Real 3D for AOS4

@mbilla

Done..

Posted to the OS4 workbech screenshots section, just waiting for it to filter through...

Edit:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=261

It has been scaled as the limit of 1280x960 is bloody annoying when your screen is 1280x1024

@Severin

I have looked at the Cycas site and can`t see any details about an Amiga version, the download options are for windows or linux.

I used www.cycas.de

@Swoop

I found an old reference in the news section, for version 1.78 being uploaded to Aminet. I then searched Aminet and found the demo version there.

I get a feeling that this is just going to unlock this old version and what you get is not the newer one.

Unless Severin can say otherwise.

Ok, i have send an email.

I have also put the most importend Amiga-links
in the email so that they can do some home-work.

Now, if we could do the same with Cinema4D we would
have some nice applications for OS4.

As you can see from the picture mentioned above, it is indeed version 1.78

Correct!

{bitch mode} What part of "Just send an email" didn't you get? {/bitch mode}

You are right there is nothing on their site, they stopped amiga support years ago. maybe if enough people email them showing interest they'll consider resuming support.

@mwoof

Depends on how loosly you define 'recent'

Hi Folks,

Like i mentioned on another thread, Cycas is a good candidate for OS4.0. Its a good basis for a fairly uptodate Amiga Cad program. The author has updated linux and windows version a lot since 1.78. But given the interest i'm sure he would bring the Amiga version upto scratch.

I personally used Cycas to get through my Architectural Degree. There were a few bits i needed to smudge, but generally its all lines...

Looking at good quality apps for the AMiga I firmly believe this is worthy of attention. Cycas was pretty spritely on my 040. I just downloaded the demo and it runs really well on my WInuae3.9 Amiga.

AMigas are a good basis for CAD machines.Quick and responsive. Cycas was very stable on my 040, so i don't see why it shouldn't be on OS4.0. Then perhaps a native version of the latest build would give 4.0 another quality app.

my 2p...

Is it the full version or the limited demo-version, that they give away?

@Controller

My guess is that they will send a key to unlock the demo version which is already freely available!

WOW! The demo is fasssst.

Nice piece of work. This is something I could use right now. Hope the keyfile comes soon.

Hard to say after just looking at the supplied pictures but it seems rock solid too!

I have to agree with bertybassett, a native version of this would be great for OS4, especially an updated version.

I've sent an e-mail to them on March 30th and haven't gotten a reply. Either they've been inundated with requests or they're only replying to a select few.
