Software News   Software News : Wet 3.0 released
   posted by Chris_Y on 1-Jun-2005 17:32:03 (7913 reads)
Wet 3.0 - the weather program for OS4 - has just been released to OS4Depot.

New features include weather condition icons on the Workbench screen (many thanks to Ken of Ken's Icons for the icons), an ARexx port and lots of smaller changes.

This version has a completely rewritten decoding engine so should be much more stable than previous versions (if it didn't work for you before, it should now)

I'm particulary interested in comments on the icons (I'm very pleased with my icon overlay routine), and thoughts of what to use the ARexx port for.

This version also has preliminary forecast support which will be extended to all sites as soon as I muster the courage to look at Reaction listviews (I hate listviews)

If you have any problems please post them here as well as the solutions may help others.

Chris

I'd love to test it but I have no Amigaone...

Is there a chance for a 68K version?

Cheers

Um ... so what does it do? "weather program" can mean many things, and the screenshot is not very enlighteniong, despite admittedly very nice-looking icons (don't have my A1 here to test it right now)?

@SlimJim

Reads the weather of a specific location, and makes it available to the OS in a number of ways so that it can be displayed, eg. envvars for use in the titlebar, icons for display on WB etc.

Strange things happened here, first I installed it over older version and it appeared to work okay. Now after a reboot when I run Wet it reports "Cannot resolve IP address"???

I have totally removed the program and re-installed from fresh but still get same error, it did manage to find my nearest weather forcaster (Southend) with no problems when I entered my latitide & longtitude coords!

Any ideas?

Well I run an older Wet, on that one you enter your co-ordinates and it contacts the nearest meteorology station to obtain weather stats.

Except here, it goes to the wrong place ( a military airbase that doesnt provide public statistics anymore ) so I have to enter the meteorology station by hand.

You then just hit 'update' to get the latest weather.

I think thats 'wet' anyway.

@Sicky

Orgin is getting the same thing. I haven't touched the network code so I don't understand why. Have a quick check that there are no dodgy tooltypes present in the icon (wipe them out and resave from within Wet if necessary)

I'll see if I can reproduce it here.

Chris

I did a search for "ICAO" in Google and found a nice site rather quickly listing all cities.

Nice work by the way! I like this program a lot.

Beautifully programmed and designed. Who would have thought a weather app could work in so many ways and have so many settings to play with?

Works perfectly on my A1XE.

Thanks ChrisY and Ken

I use wet on my CSPPC running OS4 beta, works well. One problem I've seen is the screen can't close with WET running, I use the env part for the workbench title.

I also want to say it's a great application to become an docky :)

@Dragster

Sorry, it uses v50+ functions and back-porting it would take too much time.

@tekmage

That was fixed in release 2.01

If there is no minimise gadget in the window border, OS4 locks the screen. Add the gadget - et voila! - the screen is unlocked. I'm not sure if this was something in my code or a bug in OS4 though, other things without minimise gadgets don't seem to suffer from this.

Oh, and I don't have the docky-mentation () to create dockies.

Chris

I get this when I reboot, but only because Roadshow hasn't finished setting up the internet connection.

OS4 loads so fast that if I quickly open YAM and AWeb, neither will be able to download immediately.

If I wait a few seconds, YAM, AWeb and Wet can all connect fine.

It would make a cool docky, though.

I'm getting the same "Cannot resolve IP address" error here too, the network is definitely up and running as I'm using IBrowse in the same session.

Sicky and I are on the same ISP in case that might be important, what is the IP address of the server it is trying to connect to?

Thanks

Robert

@rhino

IP address is 205.156.51.200 (I can't ping it from here, but can connect via HTTP)

Try adding tooltype MSERVER=205.156.51.200 to Wet.

Chris

I have just installed Wet and it seems to be a good program. There is only one problem: I cant get it to show the data in the title bar. I can get it to show the temperature on an app icon but when I have the program window open it says "unsatisfactory software" in the Wb title bar. What am I doing wrong?

I am running OS 4 on an AmigaOne XE.
