Software News   Software News : Directory Opus 4.17 pre 19 - AmigaOS 4 alpha version
   posted by zerohero on 22-Apr-2006 17:21:53 (6242 reads)
I am proud to announce the first alpha release of Directory Opus 4 for AmigaOS 4. Many hours were spent on porting this program and I think it's time to see what interest there is in further development of this version. On my homepage is where you get it.

DOpus in itself is pretty stable as it is, don't think I have had a crash from it for a while now. ConfigOpus is still somewhat unstable and particularly ScreenModes will crash, so don't use it yet.

There's no idea mailing me about bugs just yet, I know they're there, I'm releasing this as a first glance on what I've done, and to see if there is any interest in it. If you like it and want to see it developed further please use the PayPal button on my page.

Regards,
Joachim Birging

Yes, I'm interested! I use 4.16 on my AmigaOne already from aminet, the 68k version, and would really like an OS4 native version!

That’s another of my everyday Amiga apps with native OS4 support, OS4 is looking beter each day .
Even though I use OPUS5 on my classic and under winUAE to replace workbench I still find my self launching OPUS4 for any serous file management I have to do.

So with CygnusED and OPUS5 ports in the works all we are still waiting for to make a AmigaOne an ideal second computer is a modern web browser port + another patch of boards to run OS4 on.

Thanks for all your hard work and if all the other Amiga developers keep up the good work they are doing OS4 will be a very useful as well as fun platform to play with when I get my hands on a board to run it on.

Then it's trying to open the m68k library. If you've used the 68k version you need to reboot, the library won't flush with 'avail flush'. Still don't know why. Also you shouldn't install anything, so don't copy dopus.library to libs:. If it's still not working, I have no idea, sorry...

Joachim Birging

@zerohero

Yep, I had dopus.library in libs:
Removed it, rebooted, and now it works.

Thanks!

@zerohero

Thanks for all the hard work. I've been using Dopus for years now and never really liked any of the other file managers.

I love Opus 4.x, great work. When I move to OS4, this will be on my "must have" list.

Really nice, Jocke!

@all:
This work has to go on, bugs or no bugs, so I hit the lil' ol' blue/white button right away. I suggest you all do likewise.

Anyway, after I RTFhomepage and remembered to install xfdmaster.library as well as its glue code, it started just fine. Haven't used it much yet, but it seems nice and responsive. I wonder, has anybody found out if it's possible to reuse an old configuration from the 68k version?

Best regards,

Niels

@nbache

I'm sorry to say that I haven't been able to use a config from older version. Might be that a version from pre 19 68k might work, or older perhaps, but I have only tested with my own pre 21 config, that made it go into an endless loop.

Regards,
Joachim Birging

45 ramlib Open LIBS:dopus.l.main Read Fail
46 ramlib Open CLASSES:dopus.l.main Read Fail

@zerohero

can you compile it for 68k? if so, how much you want for adding one very expected feature : work with cursor keys over cursor. i mean press up, cursor is up, down - down. press enter - goto the directory (it can be on/off optional). what do you think ?
