Software News   Software News : WinUAE (1.5.3) released
   posted by _Steve_ on 12-Nov-2008 0:25:57 (8910 reads)
Toni Wilen has released the latest update to the popular Amiga emulator WinUAE taking it to version 1.5.3.

Major 1.5.x bug fixes:
  • Huge memory leak when switching between RTG and native modes.
  • Writing to disk images didn't work in some games.
  • Configuration cache missing files in subdirectories.
  • Random freeze when switching to fullscreen modes that are smaller than desktop resolution.
  • Second and third mouse/firebutton handling fix (Aladdin, BC.Kid and more)

Other bugs fixed:
  • "Always on top", "No taskbar button" and fullscreen color depth change works on the fly.
  • OpenGL fullscreen fixed.
  • Parallel/Serial/MIDI select menus and Input-panel bottom options didn't work correctly.
  • System clock run slightly too fast or slow if chipset refresh rate was different than startup refresh rate (really old bug).
  • OCS NTSC configuration defaulted to PAL refresh rate.
  • Real PCMCIA SRAM card re-insert detection fixed.
  • Fullscreen RTG 16-bit to 32-bit desktop windowed mode switch (CTRL+F12) color errors fixed.

New features:
  • Basic file association settings added to GUI (.uae, .adf etc..)
  • RTG vertical blank wait uses interrupts, no more busy waiting. Should improve performance in many fullscreen RTG games.
  • Added RTG virtual refresh rate configuration to GUI.
  • Added RTG refresh rate next to chipset refresh rate FPS counter.
  • Undocumented OCS "scanline" feature emulated (Ode to Ramon I and II)
  • Midline resolution change improvements (still far from perfect, Disposable Hero, Innovation Part 2)
  • Only accept current latest OpenAL32.dll or newer (old versions can cause crashes during device enumeration)
  • Improved emulation of reads from write-only custom registers (S.E.X. / Fantasys)
  • Syncronize Clock stability improved.

Click to download the Installer version.
Click to download the Zip archive version.

Full details and support can be found on the official WinUAE website.

Its good to see another update even with my minimig and classic Amiga and hopefully a new SAM to run OS4.1 it would be hard to live in an Amiga software world without the benifits winUAE brings namely the ability to run amiga software on my laptop and change hardware configuration in an instant.

It has also proved to be very useful in combination with my catweasel to reinstall OS3.9 and OS3.1 on my classic amiga's by making it allot easier to make up boot floppies with the required drivers to get a my classic A1200 tower and elbox Fast-ATA system reinstalled after a hard disk failure.

Without the abillity to make and test adf boot floppies under winUAE then write then back to real Amiga floppy disks with my Catweasel mk4 and the imaging tool I would not have got my Amiga up and running with a fresh OS3.9 BB2 install with my elbox fast-ata running in non split mode.

Nice update, downloaded it right now!

@Developer
Would it be possible to add an actual onscreen colours counter?
It's just a (maybe silly) idea of mine but I've always wondered how many actual colours were onscreen while running games like Shadow of the Beast, Universe, Jim Power, Agony and the like.
I was thinking a real time number in the info bar that appears when you activate On Screen Led

@serk118

I've tried just now using AmiKit (since that makes use of DOpus5 by default), and browsing those directories works flawlessly.

Can you list those directories normally with shell/CLI or another filemanager like DM2 or Dopus4?

@serk118

Does the WinUAE 1.5.2 works for you with regards to the issue you described? If so, please report the problem to Toni Wilen (mail address can be found at www.winuae.net). Don't forget to mention your SW and HW configuration and the best would be to send him the log files as well. I mean configure the WinUAE to save the log files (in Misc settings), start the emulation, encounter the problem you mentioned and then quit the emulation. The log files should be saved to your WinUAE folder. Send them to Toni, please.

@serk118

Both those clips are the same link

I notice you are using UAE on an Asus Ee. Aside from it using a weird resolution (and there have been a fair few threads on that issue), I do not recall any of the other Ee users having any trouble with the 1.5.3 betas.

The only other problem is when you zoomed in, the focus was not adjusted making it impossible to read the text (although I know you were clicking on one of the dirs you mentioned you had issues with).

Here is a test of 1.5.3 in Dopus Magellan 5.82 on my machine via AmiKit opening both directories without issue.

The WinUAE site has been up and down like a yo-yo recently. It is available from other emulation sites at the moment owing to the problems of getting it from winuae.net.
