Announcement   Announcement : Goodbye To All
   posted by jorit2 on 24-Apr-2011 3:33:37 (25902 reads)
Hi All,

Just to mention, and for what it's worth, and it won't change anything I guess But maybe, just maybe, someone might be interested to know ...

I left the Amiga scene completely, never to look back. I also stepped down from Hyperion.

Nuff said

Take care,
Evert

@Evert

Thank you very much - that makes a lot more sense and sorry I misinterpreted your announcement.

@tomazkid : Has anyone asked Evert Carton or Hyperion, if this announcement is for real?

Jorit2 spoke for himself above.

I would not have approved the news item if I thought it was not for real.
Yes, a bit suspicious to see a new member to post something like this, but, as I suspected, Jorit lost his password, that does happen.

@Jorit2

Thank you, even if this is a bit of unusual news, this is imho very important, there is every now and then talk and questions about who works at (and for) Hyperion, you quit, and told us, so no need for speculations regarding if you work for Hyperion or not now.

All the best for the future

@all

given the following statement:

Quote:
I moved on a couple o' years ago, decided not to become part of A-Eon or the X1000 project, have been busy with completely unrelated things, and my involvement in Hyperion, has hence become ... pointless (for lack of a better word)

and...

Quote:
Hyperion was originally founded with the idea that all partners, that was Ben and me, would do our own thing within Hyperion. As Hyperion grew into a predominantly 'Amiga-ish'-company, and has over time sucked up all the available resources, there was not much space for my own genuine interests.

does this mean that hyperion is, effectively, just ben hermans? are there any actual full- or part-time employees? i've never been clear on just how many people work for or are contracted by hyperion for work on OS4 and game ports.

can anyone comment constructively on this question?

I met Evert back in 2008 when my wife and I were in Brussels. He and Ben Hermans took us out to dinner and were generous and charming hosts at a time when they must have been under a lot of pressure. It was during the court case and IIRC just before ACube's Sam was announced.

At that time there were only the two of them and I'm sure that they were sorely stressed, both mentally and financially, by the lawsuits.

I don't know how Ben has managed to "keep it all going" since their Pyrrhic victory, but all credit to him. I'm not surprised that Evert has been forced to take on other interests.

Evert, thank you again for that night and your past stewardship of Hyperion. My wife and I wish you all the very best in your future.

So far, I have only read a few posts...

WTF??? What is this

The weirdest NEWS I've ever seen (I think) in the Amiga community...

Why this "Epic Drama" news??? (although I like "some" dramas )

I hope to find some anwers further down the posts...

EDIT: added "some"

Was Evert Carton not a major shareholder in Hyperion Entertainment? So to me, that means that perhaps someone else is now major shareholder?

No! It does not mean anything like that. Why can't people just accept that maybe this is true and there is no conspiracy to do harm in any way. It could easily be that two partners that formed a company have just grown apart and no longer have any desire to continue the partnership.

The only negative effect I could see this having, is the possibility that Evert Carton may have taken some of what ever company investment money was his from the initial creation of the company with him when he left, or what ever share of profits were his and since Hyperion is a small company, taking half of what ever money it has from it could be damaging. It could be that he left with nothing, if as he stated he had nothing to do with the "Amiga" side of the company and each partner was working separately.

Let's not turn this into something that it is not and blow it out of proportion.

Hi Evert,

Good luck with future endeavors.

I guess this means you'll be doing business with the other Hyperion - y'know, the one which creates multi-billion dollars-worth of business analytical software

Many thanks for your clarification, and for updating us.

Considering the long lawsuit with Amiga, Inc. over ownership of trademarks and IP, and the long battles that lie ahead with Amiga, Inc. licensing the trademark to everybody, their friends, their relatives, and their pets, if I was part of the Hyperion management team, I'd feel like running. I hope the best for Hyperion, but do not envy the position in which Amiga, Inc. has placed them at this time (or for those who are C=USA loyal, the position in which Hyperion has placed itself).
