posted by Zylesea on 27-May-2013 21:18:05 (5887 reads)
The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the public release of MorphOS 3.2, which introduces support for Power Mac G5 workstations, iBook G4 laptops and additional PowerBook G4 models. The 3.2 release also has a strong focus on improved network support with a completely new and improved NetStack core as well as support for wireless networks. In addition, there are several new network-related tools such as VNC client, a Remote Desktop Client and a tool showing detailed network statistics. As usual, the latest release also offers many new features and bug fixes. For an overview of the included changes, please read our release notes.

We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 3.2 is available for download in our files section.

Great way to go, especially G5 support.
Hope for the SAM 460 support in next one!

IMPORTANT:

The current iso file has a corrupted boot.img that fails on Mac computers. Don't burn the iso unless you want to install to Pegasos or Efika. Wait for a fixed iso (should be released very soon) for Mac computers.

UPDATE:
Update on Macs works easily with a very little manual work:
copy the boot.img from the mac_ppc32 drawer to your hfs boot partition (mount that drive if necessary with sys:tools/mounter), then reboot with teh MorphOS 3.2 cd inserted and proceed with the install - that's all (at least it worked for me),

NOTE: Be careful when messing with the boot: partitition - can render your system to non booting. If you don't know what you're doing, wait for the fixed iso.

Posting this from MorphOS 3.2 on Mac mini.

Awesome! Support for my beloved iBook G4!! Will have to try it out whenever I get some time. Support for the G5 PowerMac is excellent to see, just a shame I gave mine away a year or two ago

"Updated to handle R300 3D support."

Look forward to hearing how fast 3D games/apps run on this. X2 AGP 9800 cards will run in a Pegasos 2.

I still don't get it... why don't they attempt to support the new SAM boards versus old crufty Macs?

Because those Macs are superior to SAMs. More powerful, wider range to choose from (small but fast mini, laptops, real power machines (G5)), cheaper, easier to find as used, better long term availability, etc. But as announced, there's some goals to get SAM support too, but it just isn't on that high priority for these obvious reasons.

The old crufty Macs as you call them run circles around SAM boards both price and speedwise. You can get several Macs and register MorphOS for them for a price of one SAM setup - and the Macs will still be faster.

Because Sams are so slow that even 9-years Pegasos2 are faster, and Pegasos2 is slow compared to Macs. And the price of Sams is even more expensive than Pegasos2/G4 (released NINE YEARS ago in small quantities)

It's the latest series 1.67Ghz PowerBook G4. If you go for the 15" variant (system ID: PowerBook5,8) or 17" (system ID: PowerBook5,9) is a matter of taste, it's the same machine otherwise. Up to 2GB RAM is possible HW-wise, MorphOS will use max. 1.5GB on it. You can find detailed information of every Mac/iBook/PowerBook specs on some Mac sites, like everymac.com.

I have the 15" model, everything works fine with MorphOS. I also use a TP-Link TL-WN310G wireless card with it, which also works nicely.

Remember that registration is tied to HW then. If you plan to get better machine or have doubts that your current machine isn't working properly, I'd consider the registration until you know which machine you want it for. Unless you want to support with several licences of course :) I'll come back as free updates of course...
