An aside, also, maybe a 6 in 1 card reader config. could be put into the left side, and a second CF slot too, would be nice. |
For my family I was looking for a basic Winbox to replace one that finally died. For about 75% of the price of the AmigaOne motherboard alone, we got a Sotec desktop computer that actually does have those card ports, and a 120GB harddrive, DVD multidrive (reads and writes all DVD and CDROM formats), 256MB ram, WindowsXP and bundled apps and everything works smooth as silk. Not to dwell on the "too expensive" thing again, because in fact the Pegasos also looks really sad in this kind of price/features comparison. It just shows how big a gap there is between commodity computers and niche hardware. There's a really big challenge for these companies.

Hi gary_c,
Sounds like a company (Sotec) went out and kept fidgeting with programs, until it got something to work, but, is it a closed system, or can you do other things with it too?
I'm glad it's working for you, but widross can kiss my @$$.
There's nothing we can do about the price, just as you can't with your platform of choice.
ONLY some bold company stepping in and mass producing the motherboard/complete system (Amiga Phantasy??) can lower prices to any significant extent.
Pre-AOS4.0 is the "chosen One" that I must have, and I'll cough up whatever is necessary.
Zealot? What can we (you with your OS) do to make others understand what we have? It's superior, and that's what I'm looking for/require. I feel that, "build it, and they will come" is the bottom line in the grand scheme of things, and that's what we have to support, until everyone else wakes up!
If it costs me triple what I can have on their side, BUT I CAN'T WORK WITH THEIR EQUIPMENT, well, I'm willing to persevere with an AmigaOne. In a couple years, when a really cheap G5 64 bit AOS5.0 comes out, IT WILL ALL HAVE BEEEN W A Y WORTH IT!
