Seems like it's doomed to fail. Artists rarely put more than 10 songs on a CD as it is despite the room for 17-18... The only advantage to it would be in "boxed set" compilations. Even then, how many people are going to buy new players for such scarce items...
SDHC or USB flash is the medium to beat right now. Many after market car stereos already supporting such sources for music and mp3 and other formats...
One would like to think so. But, Sony's latest media cornering attempt is Blu-spec CD. A blue laser used for sound only. Sounds like it might be a good option. Except the current format is the same fidelity as a CD, 16bit and 44KHz. Come on even if Sony didn't want to create the 1bit/2.8Mhz SACD they could have put DVD (24bit/96KHz) on Blu-Spec CD.
Well one saving grace for Blu-spec CD is:
