New version 1.5 of AmiCygnix available |
| software OS4 posted by CygnusEd on 2-Mar-2020 15:15:18 (2090 reads) |
In version 1.5 many problems that were noticed in 1.4 have been eliminated. But new things have also been added.
New in AmiCygnix-Base: A new window manager has been added that is recommended for use with programs launched from the standalone scripts. The main window is maximized and duplicate frames are avoided. Seven new display drivers are included, which can bring advantages depending on the existing hardware. Five of these drivers no longer use Picasso96, but the functions of the Graphics Library (from V54). If a workbench display is iconized, the name of the icon now indicates the program started in it, if it was started with a standalone script. The X server did not support special keys like "Page Up" or "Home" found on a PC keyboard. Also the NumLock key was not supported. This has now been implemented. The X server could crash on some systems. This is fixed now. Fixed some bugs in myX11Setup and myX11SetupLight. In some programs, the Italian translation has been updated or newly created. The display drivers xpicasso96clonewbdb and xpicasso96wb were revised for better performance, especially on 32/24bit screens. Various internal tools and the desktop panel "lxpanel" have been revised. The programs could cause crashes. The documentation is now available in PDF format. In addition, a separate documentation about the display drivers has been added.
New in AmiCygnix-Tools:
The startup scripts have been redesigned for the new window manager. The documentation is now also in PDF format.

Major Amiga-native subversion software update available for testing |
| software Classic posted by olsen on 2-Mar-2020 10:02:36 (1061 reads) |
If you still use the subversion tool for Amiga native software development you will have run into problems caused by the age of the tool. Accessing source code stored on today's subversion repository servers no longer works so smoothly. Modern certificates and encryption do make a difference.
The first Amiga-native subversion 1.1.4 toolset which supports AmiSSL V4.4 and modern web encryption is now available for testing. Thanks go to Costel Mincea whose work enabled the AmiSSL V4 integration.
Both the source code and ready-made software for AmigaOS 3.x and 4.x can be found at https://sourceforge.net/projects/amiga-subversion-port/
The source code is, of course, stored in a subversion repository on the same server.

First Amiga Tabor pre-orders start, computers confirmed for summer/fall of 2020 |
| hardware OS4 posted by Petah on 1-Mar-2020 23:17:46 (1086 reads) |
On Sunday, March 1st, Amiga retailer AmigaKit approached customers that have recently bought the limited "AAA Bundle" by asking them to declare their interest in pre-ordering the upcoming, PowerPC-based Amiga Tabor. As previously announced by A-EON, the company designing the Tabor, AAA Bundle customers will have first dibs on the initial Tabor production run now known as the Early Adopter Scheme. In its communication to customers, the Tabor is now confirmed to have its launch window set within the third quarter of 2020. Since no deposits were initially asked for, payment requests for €400 - a price tag that includes the computer motherboard, a license of the upcoming Enhancer 2.0 software suite and a one year warranty - are expected at a later date, when additional periperals such as Radeon graphics cards will also be offered. The forthcoming, general availability of the Amiga Tabor remains as of yet undisclosed.

COVID-19 "Corona" virus hampers Chinese economy, may stall Amiga Tabor launch |
| hardware OS4 posted by Petah on 24-Feb-2020 21:04:05 (5180 reads) |
In a lenghty blog update posted by A-EON CEO Trevor Dickinson on Monday, February 24th, it is stated that production of the upcoming Amiga Tabor may get stalled because of the COVID-19 virus. Reported by various news sources, the pathogen has hampered the electronics business throughout southeast Asia. As reported by Dickinson, the low cost PowerPC-based Amiga manufacturing may also be affected by the virus, potentially pushing the production of the early edition pre-orders from this spring to the third quarter. Meanwhile, the 100 customers that have already bought AmigaKit's sold-out "AAA Bundle" are said to get the opportunity to sign up for pre-ordering the Tabor Early Edition sometime next week.
As no firm launch date has been announced yet, it remains to be seen if the Tabor Early Edition customers on the waiting list will have their new Amigas by this summer or at a later date. On a side note, it may be speculated that A-EON's ExecSG software team will use any additional time to further improve on AmigaOS before the Amiga Tabor's Early Adopter Program takes off.

Cloanto licenses Commodore 65 ROM to Mega 65 - Amiga licenses on the horizon? |
| Announcement posted by Petah on 22-Feb-2020 19:25:37 (3539 reads) |
In a surprising announcement on Friday, February 21st, Cloanto - famous for its long running range of Amiga emulators - and the Mega65 Project announced that the two parties have come to an agreement regarding licensing official Commodore 65 ROM code for the upcoming Mega 65 8-bit computer, that fully clones the Commodore 65 using FPGA-hardware with a slew of enhancements such as Ethernet and HDMI connectivity. In a following comment, a Mega 65 spokesperson stated that preorders for the highly anticipated little brother of the Amiga 1000 is only weeks away.
This move may suggest that the Cloanto, currently involved with a legal battle with other parties claming ownership of the Amiga trademarks, will be open to similar deals concerning Amiga intellectual property once the ongoing court proceedings are finalized.

New updated on HunoPPC site |
| software OS4 posted by HunoPPC on 17-Feb-2020 13:35:17 (2024 reads) |
Good morning all Amigans, After a short moment of absence, here I am back with some small updates and some new features (others will come as I spare). I thank all of the people who have supported me despite my lack of activity lately, and also a big thank you for your patience to all.
Update of the EGL_Wrap Library: First of all, it is strongly advised to update the EGL_Wrap library in its new version which brings a lot of fixes and improvements for your games. All my old games (MiniGL) will go to EGL_Wrap library for your enjoyment, just be patient because there is integration work.
The game GISH can be seen in EGL_Wrap library, this allows you to work in higher resolutions without loss of FPS and better graphic quality just for your eyes.
Pacman-Arena game updates with the latest version of EGLSDL_Wrap library
The PINGUS game is seen in EGL_Wrap library, this allows you to work in higher resolutions without loss of FPS and better graphic quality just for your eyes.
Reborn to castle Wolfenstein updates with the latest version of the EGL_Wrap library for your enjoyment.
Return to castle wolfenstein updates with the latest version of the EGL_Wrap library for your enjoyment.
The game ZAZ is seen passing in EGL_Wrap, that allows you to work in higher resolutions without losses of FPS and a better graphic quality just for your eyes.
A new game to add to your list: the SOULFU game makes its appearance thanks to the latest version of the EGL_Wrap library.
I wish you all a great time with all these games.
