Any confusion is due to the morphine shots I'm on as a reward for impaling my foot yesterday. I recomend everyone should do this as you get free hospital food and sexy nurses tuck you in at night. (Though they might be a figment of my imagination due to the morphine) |
Our local hospital doesn't give out painkillers anymore, almost as policy, you pretty much have to go to Raleigh if you need to be treated for pain.
Betsy Johnson hospital in Dunn/Erwin, NC. Supposed to be famous for their sports medicine. The locals have labelled it the "Play through the pain" hospital.

Hasn't this been told a thousand times? If a dealer pays in advance Eyetech will ship boards to them. There is also a minimum number of boards per batch that will have to be prepayed. Probably atleast 8 boards at a time (a dealer could confirm this). |
AFAIK much, much more than 8 but to be 100% sure:
@Eyetech
How many boards, a dealer must preorder/prepaying to be "considered"?
If you cannot answer . . . i'll understand

avnet sells MCP7447AHX1000NB with a lead time of three weeks. Quantities start from a *single* unit for around 190US$ and from a quantity of more than 100 the price drops alreadyy to 158 US$
That are real world prices for low quantities. If eyetech wanna get cpus, surf avnet and order, simple, ain't it? 158 meight be a bit more expensive than teh 800 Mhz G3, but remember you get a G4 1 Ghz for that money! |
think you missed a major point....Eyetech has a contract with the mfg. IBM for CPU's
"We can always get cpu's at full retail prices from a distributor, but that would throw the economics of production right out of the window unless we made a big hike in the product price (which would clearly affect out sales volumes, hence production volumes, hence setup costs/board - see below)."
your asking Eyetech to go back on the deal with IBM and go to distributors.
maybe you have a point, maybe not. Maybe, the real answer is for Eyetech to barebones the A1's and let the buyer get his own processor board, and memory. I've been pushing for the Megaray to be "open" . If other small manufacurers can come and supply the processor boards in small quant. and everyone is happy fine. _________________ "The system no longer works " -- Young Anakin Skywalker |

the total market of boards they can sell to the Amiga Enthusiast ( either existing or returning ) at this point in the AmigaOS4 lifecycle ( development, early adopters ) then each might get 1/3 of the sales and the prices would have to be higher accordingly. |
maybe in Europle, not in the USA!
In the US we are only in the sampling quantites of A1's and have been, and thats due to the exchange rate problem. _________________ "The system no longer works " -- Young Anakin Skywalker |

It's the Articia S that is holding back the memspeed so there's no real problem adding higher frequency CPU's. For example, the 750GX has a 200MHz FSB but Articia S only supports 133MHz which is the memory speed also. |
you understand the FSB problem real well, same goes for the G4, so a 750 XX might be the best choice to use?
Maybe this is the reason that (Rogue?) noted that the speed of the G3 was very good for the A1 system. We have the limits of the FSB to deal with, and maybe the G3 is balanced with the FSB?Last edited by Interesting on 10-Jun-2005 at 06:24 PM.

The Pegasos used ibm 750CXe @ 600 Mhz, but Genesi doesn't have many left, sales ate the stock now. |
think the 750FX can go up to 933 mhz now.? What do you think about that model?

Also since the freescale thing pegs have increased in price to be (also strangely enough) more or less the same as the micro-A1 |
This issn´t correct you can get a Pegasos ODW for USD799.-/650Euro atm. This is a complete system with following components: * Pegasos II with 1GHz G4 processor * 512MB DDR RAM * 80GB ATA100 Hard Disk * Dual-Layer DVDRW Drive * ATI Radeon 9250 graphics * Low Profile Small Footprint Case - Tower or Desktop Orientation

Thanks for the positive update, Alan. After the rather negative atmosphere prevalent amongst some on here, it makes a nice change. _________________ "Do or do not - there is no try." AmigaOne XE G4 - 1GB RAM, UDMA133 200GB HDDx2, Sil 680 PCI, Radeon, Soundblaster Live . . . |

Why don't you focus on getting the A1XCs into production? It could very well be a MicroATX motherboard with 1 AGP (4x) and 3 PCI-sockets. Get ride of the onboard audio chip and graphic chip. People want to make their own choices...
Here is what you can do:
1. Release new batch of MicroA1-C at cheaper price and higher volume 2. Bring MicroA1-I to the development market 3. Get A1XC produced and out to the consumer market (as suggested many times) 4. Work closer with Hyperion (if not already) and bring out the public release of OS4.0
Can't think of anything better, and by the way. Look for CPUs from Freescale and Motorola, not just IBM
Alan, i'm sorry i have been frustrated at you. I know you're trying to do your very best. Keep it up, but PLEASE consider these things, ok? You won't regret it

Thank you for the clarification. I'd like to ask something, and I really hope you won't take this the wrong way but... we never hear of Genesi having CPU shortages. What do they do that you don't?
Not publicise their CPU shortages?
(Naw, we'd probably have heard about them anyway) |
CodeSmith clarified Eyetech’s comment on Genesi. They questioned why there are no mentions of Genesi facing CPU issues and jokingly suggested it might be due to a lack of publicity rather than actual problems, implying they would have heard about such shortages regardless. |
