As I went to download Amikit 11, I noticed there was also this software called Flower Pot which would enable me to run an emulated AOS4.

However, it specifically mentions it requires AOS4 Classic.

When checking, I noticed there is AOS 4 Final Edition: https://www.amiga-shop.net/en/Amiga-Software/AmigaOS-Amiga-operation-systems/AmigaOS-4-1-Final-Edition::689.html

And AOS 4 Final Edition for Classic: https://www.amikit.amiga.sk/os4

Thing is, I have Sam440EP, which is currently broke one way or other. It seems like problem is that HardDisk failed and AOS4 would need to be installed again. But as I bought the machine used, I didn't get AOS4 disc with it.

Therefore First question:

1. If I buy AOS4 Final Edition download version, I suppose I can just burn it to Cd / transfer to USB-stick, and be able to reinstall it to my Sam440?

Another Option I am looking at is using this Flower Pot: https://www.amikit.amiga.sk/store (scroll down to see flower pot part)

I am thinking it could be handy to use AOS4 emulation on my PC for my current purposes.

But:

2. So is it so that I have to buy either AOS4 Final Edition, or the Classic Edition? That there is no option where I could have these both options, as in getting the Emulation usage as well as the Sam440? That to do that, I need to buy those both?

The actual usage I am mainly after, is to test my Hollywood made games to get them to work properly on AOS4.

Therefore couple of other questions regarding Flower Pot:

3. I have year ago bought PC, that was middle priced machine: I5-12400, 2500mhz, 6-core, 64 Gb, Geforce RTX 4060.

How fast/slow will the Flower Pot Emulation be, will it be too slow to emulate any AOS4 machines speed, or will it be too fast or something?

Roughly what real AOS4 machines speed will it emulate?

4. When using Flower Pot for testing AOS4 products, is there something I need to take into consideration? Like, I assume, just like in Amikit, I will be able to open bigger screenmodes that AOS 4 machines are able to?

5. Same question as 4 regarding Amikit testing for AOS3 compatibility.

@Bugala

Flower Pot run WinUAE to emulate classic Amiga with PowerPC

1. Yes You can just burn it to Cd / transfer to USB-stick, and be able to reinstall it to Sam440
Be carefull it have to be version for Sam440

2. There are separate version for

classic Amiga with PPC
Sam440
Pegasos 2
A1 XE, A1SE, mA1
A1 500/Sam460
A1 X1000

You have to buy one for Sam440 and one for emulator

3. Little faster than Sam440 under WinUAE but not so much

4. 1280x1024 32 bit max under WinUAE

No hardware 3D acceleration working

5. It is better to just use WinUAE to emulate 68k

To sum it up, If I were You I will be try to fix Sam440 rather than use emulator.
Real hardware, more fun, and 3D working.

@Bugala

If you want to use FlowerPot to get an emulated OS4 system, you need to buy
OS4.1 Final Edition for the classic systems. There's a buy link at the end of the page. You get a download version.

I can recommend FlowerPot, it makes the installation very easy. I've been using it for years as a system for testing my software.

Thanks for replies, I completely missed that there are different versions even for PPC Amigas of AOS 4.

But, are there different versions for SAMs? for there are quite many of those, and mine is older one, I think it was Sam440ep or Flex or something like that, and I am recalling something like number 600 Mhz (don't recall exactly the model, but one of the older ones)

Both Sam440ep and Sam440ep-Flex need the OS4 FE version that amig_os gave you a link for (from the Swedish online shop).

There different versions for Sam440 and Sam460.
You need version for Sam440.
There is one no matter ep or flex.

@Bugala

I mean, I do get why Hyperion do this, but it be nice if you got AmigaOS4 it would have all versions.

WinUAE / FlowerPot is only for Classic AmigaOS4 PPC

QEMU there been a bit of work on getting mainly Sam460 and Pegasos2 boards emulated, I think by a very small margin I read Pegasos2 is the better supported on QEMU for AmigaOS4 emulation. I wish there was a Pre-build package like Amiga Forever for AmigaOS4 on QEMU, I did find these two little development that kinda help,
https://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=45230&forum=8 -QEMU Helper
https://codeberg.org/qmiga/pages/wiki/SubprojectBBoot -BBoot Pegasos2QEMU

I think QEMU can do a emulation of Sam440 board, but I cant find much info or help for you to get AmigaOs up and running on it. Like I said 460/Pegasos2 seem to have enjoyed most support.

@Bugala

There have been some talks on updating the graphic driver much like on 68k. should give a nice speed bump!

For WinUAE's classic AmigaOS 4.1 FE with old 3D acceleration, use the 3DFX Voodoo 3 PCI + GREX PCI bus board combo. Tested with Wipeout 2097 for Amiga's PowerPC with WarpUP.

I modified Startup-Sequence with

C:Bootloader COMMANDLINE "AllowBasepageAccess GREX NORAMPAGER"

It allows for 1128 MB RAM for classic AmigaOS 4.1 FE.

I paid classic AmigaOS 4.1 FE bundle with the Amiga Forever 2016 Plus Edition.

I have QEMU 8.2 with Sam460 and AmigaOS 4.1 FE UP2. I haven't got around QEMU's PCIe passthrough.

From QEMU v8.2.0, there is also AmigaOne machine profile that can run the AmigaOne SE/XE/microA1 version of AmigaOS 4.1. https://zero.eik.bme.hu/~balaton/qemu/amiga/aos_bboot.html

I haven't updated to QEMU 9.x.
