Hi All

Whenever I run MPLayer on my SAM460 it runs on it's own screen, how do I get it to run in a window which I much prefer.

Also every time I quit mplayer I get a GrimReaper but it continues to run okay if I lad another movie!

@All

I have found out that pressing f changes to playing in a window, is there any tooltype or setting that can make that pernament to run in a window?

MPlayer runs very well under MorphOS, in AmigaOS4 not much.

What version of Mplayer ?
Is it "MuiMplayer ? If so it should default to playback in a window.

amiga 1200, tcp/ip, linux.

@sicky
seems you use afxgroup's version of mplayer, which have bugs like you describe, try fab's muimplaer. It have some porting-bugs as well, but at least should't crash on exit.

When I go to information and click on version it says 'not available' and last change Saturday 22 August 2009 12:24

Is there a later stable version?

Mine runs on it's own screen but if I hit 'f' key displays in a window.

There's muimplayer on OS4depot. Last updated 30/11/2011.

I can't advise on stability I'm afraid.

@sicky

It sounds like you re using afxgroups mplayer in SDL mode. This defaults to fullscreen, and in the latest version crashes on exit as you describe.

However I'm sure that sdl isn't the default driver so I'm not sure why it's defaulting to that for you.

How are you starting it? From the shell or via MplayerGUI or similar?

Also as oters have mentioned there is MUI-MPlayer which is more recent but can lock up with certain video types, so it's swings and roundabouts (I keep both installed)

Mplayer runs very well under linux and nots so well anywhere else ... I'm not going to advise Sicky to launch linux though to solve his OS4 problems

The signature reads "Radeon HD 4650" so SDL output would be what that program would fall back on. It seems that it doesn't have any good video output method for systems without P96 PIP, so I would suggest to look on the mplayer page for mplayer leitmotiv, which doesn't crash on exit when using SDL mode.

Of course muimplayer can be used as well, but they both have their specific uses.

Do you have any plans to try to correct some of the porting bugs? if there's anything you can do without needing an updated mui etc

@sicky

All MPlayer versions default to using a window. You must have a tooltype setting or something saved in the conf/ directory that makes it open a fullscreen, an SDL fullscreen at that since you get this crash.

Not sure what porting bugs are left in MUI-MPlayer except for the alignment causing some wide-screen videos to become diagonal garbage. This is the same with afxgroup's OS4 mplayer as well though. Very annoying.

Yep, just submit bugreport on the bugs.os4depot.net here

At this moment, i see there not much problems reported.

@Deniil715 & kas1e

The p96-pip driver has several issues (not present in cgx_overlay/cgx_overlay_gui):

- alignment sometimes wrong, leading to scrambled display (easily detected).
- YUV12 mode is apparently not used in the MPlayer MUI version (which is bad, because it would give a 30% speedup in blitting stage)
- triple-buffered overlay isn't enabled either. It's essential to have it, to avoid tearing effect and flickering OSD.
- crash/deadlock issue when resizing the window to a very small window.

For the rest, this version is based on some version from november 2011, and it had no particular crash issue on MorphOS. However ffmpeg had some issue replaying some very particular mp4 files back then. So updating to a newer version wouldn't hurt. :)

@Deniil715

MPlayer can be started in fs mode (be it in GUI mode or not) with -fs option (or fs=1 in config file).

What specific uses? MPlayer MUI offers the same (and more). The only drawback is it that on OS4, it inherits the bugs of the P96pip driver of the other MPlayer version. :)
Now i understand there could be some porting issues, but they can easily be resolved.

I have the following tooltypes set:

# Write your default config options here!
vo=sdl
ao=null

If I get rid of them nothing happens when I attempt to launch MPlayer.

Also downloaded muimplayer and program launches, looks good but when I load a movie nothing happens whatsoever!

Also downloaded latest version of MPlayer from OS4 Depot and same thing happens!

You need to set the Preferences :Video driver to cgx_wpa for it to work without pip96 .

Try the new MUI-Mplayer, I don't think standard MPlayer is in development any more and doesn't even have a GUI.

Only if overlay IS available. I had no overlay for years due to (1)use of a program that prevented overlay from working and (2)a setting in WB that also prevented overlay from working.
As a result every version of MPlayer (and I used them ALL) started in SDL full screen. This behavior was consistent through version SVN-r29532-4.2.3 (summer reloaded).

You also get the diagonal colored bands when the horizontal resolution is not evently divisible by 16 under overlay. With SDL the issue does not exist. This refers to the last afxgroup version SVN-r29532-4.2.3 (summer reloaded).

MPlayer-GUI may not be part of MPlayer itself, but it's been perfect for use with all MPlayer versions prior to the MUI-MPlayer version.

@danwood

Wasn't there an updated non-MUI-version of Andrea's MPlayer in the AMC package? This is the version I use (not in front of my machine atm, so I can't check now...). AFAIK the crash-on-exit-problem should be soved with it...

Okay I need an idiots guide on how to achieve this, is it a tooltype or in config file and exactly how do I put it?
