@Troika

I'm not really as bitter as I come across in the other thread. Frustrated to an extent, yes. I look forward to hearing how you manage (manageded?) to thwart the guards hiding the OS licenses at Amiga Inc.!! Hyperion's OS4 web site and the lack of official announcements ending our and ACK's projects gives me hope compared to how things worked some time before Hyperion's web page came up. I'd like to believe that things improved after the known failures happened.

Politly asking for an update is one thing but there are plenty of people who just constantly moan about delays and do the vapourware thing.

As an organized and named entity perhaps. But surely the people who make up Troika didn't all first learn of Amiga platform the day the company formed... That'd just be nuts. The people have to have been around waiting for so long just like the rest of us and finally had enough and decided to do something instead of just continue to sit around waiting some more...

So basically your own situation then? Provided that Troika got a license (which was still never confirmed), what difference could there be between your project and their project? I mean, I don't think they "approached" Amiga Inc. differently. The only thing I see could in fact be the time when you/they requested details about licensing. What exactly is your point with the "before Hyperion's web page came up"? What influence could it have on the whole situation? Thanks for clearing this up a bit.

Hi eder,

For 800 Euro, you just may be able to get 2 carrot "diamonds in the rough".

Are you blind or what? Troika has not shown us that a board actually exists. For a company what has shown us piss all, they do have a nice fan base.

@d0c

, nice picture and it suits Troika.

Something like that. I may have tried too soon, and they may have succeeded (or will succeed) after my bad timing.

Hyperion posted their OS4 web page, describing what it does, is, looking like a product marketing brochure for hardware vendors looking for an OS, this came after my attempts to contact Amiga Inc. I wouldn't expect them to start marketing the OS in that fashion if licensing was flat out not possible. It wouldn't make much sense would it?

I just haven't tried Amiga Inc.'s licensing again since my first contact attempts about one year ago now, maybe slightly longer. Maybe I should do that instead of badgering people about how things went so long ago. For all I know it may be quite smooth operation today and I jsut haven't heard the news yet.

I wouldn't put too much weight on the website and OS4 marketing. A website for OS4 marketing was badly needed at that time, but I don't think it originated from some kind of "policy change" at Amiga Inc. The connection between Hyperion and Amiga Inc. is rather loose, to say the least. Hell, they didn't even notice that OS4 wasn't released "beginning of 2005" as it still says on the Amiga Inc. website.

I would rather think that the situation was different when you applied due to the fact that things were still looking promising that new hardware was coming from Eyetech and they would still be the main supplier of OS4 ready hardware.
It was in June 2005 that Eyetech said the following in a Q&A:

"Q: Can you assure people that Eyetech will not hold a monopoly and will welcome other hardware solutions?

A: It is such a tiny market and the costs of entry are so high that no commercial concern in its right mind would get involved. Without a 'monopoly' this tiny market would be even more fragmented, making for even smaller production volumes and much higher prices."

Maybe this was "general consensus" at that time between the AmigaOne partners. Therefore, there was not much interest in other "new hardware" apart from what Eyetech had to offer. The situation is different now. I would try again, if I were you. It's nothing more than it is, just a try. Good luck!

@hatschi

If you tried to create something, other than complains, you might have behaved in a different way.

That's right, complain your head off and you might say bye bye to the last that is left too. That wouldn't be the first time in amiga world either.

Didn't you say the samething about AOS 4? It won't appear, won't make it, vapour troll troll troll? Or was it someone else?

You know, I'm just as sick of reading about people moaning as I am at the amiga situation. It doesn't help, is that so hard to get in to your *piiiiiiip* ...

When has that ever helped, made something, anything better????? NEVER... so give yourself a break and come back as a happier man (and I might too)...
