Yeah, well. Don't hold your breath.
I remember when the Open Peg thread was running at the start of January that all the advocates for this solution were being knocked down and abused by tirades of people saying "ACK and Troika are only 2 weeks away", "Stop being disloyal to ACK and Troika", "You are just a BBRV fanboy" and even "If Hyperion started on Peg II port now we would have to wait until June for shipping product". It does, but that is irrelevant to the fact that Adam was not referring to all AmigaOnes when he was saying that he doesn't get "the throughput that was expected." It is your own interpretation. I prefer to stay with what he actually stated however. _________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

Hehe, if i'm narrow minded, how do you call the attitude "Articia is perfect, bPlan was all wrong", while it turned out that Articia indeed has problems keeping cache coherency and doing more than one DMA transfers at the same time. But anyways let's stop this, repeating this flame leads to nowhere. We did this too many times already.

Well, we just have Adam's IRC word here as proof. The Aricia does not deliver the best performance, we all agree on that, I guess. It works, but not ideal. The 60x bus for the 7447 is crap. A 1.7ghz G4 on a 60x bus will be of minor benefit only. The speed increase between a 800-1000 Mhz G4 will be not worth all that money and effort.

I sort of agree with samface. (Mark your calendars!)
Nothing is really lost or gained with regards to AmigaOS. All the ACKs or Troikas in the world can't make a difference. They're all pointless, as far as user numbers and a future for AmigaOS are concerned. There's not much practical difference between not having AmigaOS4 released at all, and having it released only together with "special", hyper-expensive, hyper-rare and underperforming hardware on a "special" market.
Personally, I think ACK's Amiga expansions seem to be Way Cool(TM) if they ever would be released. Cool, but commercially irrelevant. The "AmigaOne" stuff might, if it would come to function and exist one day, be of interest to a few of those whose "AmigaOnes" went up in smoke. A small subset of an already commercially irrelevant pseudo-market.

i hope he doesnt post pictures, as it shows from this extremely misguided thread no one in the amiga scene (note i didnt say community) deserves them.
as a moderator i would have thought you would know a bad idea for a poll from the start, as all this did was open the gates to waves and waves of crap. _________________

I can agree with you that it wouldn't make a huge difference to the OS4 market. If all works out as it should (highly unlikely in Amigaland) then we are maybe talking (very optimisitic) about 5000 users. There won't be any people from outside of the group of oldtime Amiga fanatics with these kind of hardware prices. With "lost time" I mean that even in a non-OS4-licensed-hardware situation where it is blatantly obvious that something fundamental _is_wrong, many people are and would still insist on licensing "to protect AmigaOS and against piracy" and to stay with custom PPC hardware because it's so "magic" and Amiga needs to be "different". Thus, loosing time instead of putting the energy into something that has a future and doesn't look like an obvious dead-end. Last edited by polka. on 14-Jun-2006 at 01:39 PM.

No, I really don't think we would be left off with any worse situation than we are already in if Adam wouldn't make an attempt to make his hardware available for us. It is through projects like this that we could possibly prevent it, not cause it._________________ Sammy Nordström, A.K.A. "Samface"

| Come on Adam, missing deadlines YOU set does not look good. Once is acceptable, twice is just bad luck. But you've got a systematic problem of failing to deliver on time. Uploading pictures doesn't take much time.
If you can't show us pictures of the prototype running because it blew up, then at least show us photos of the fragments. At least you can then say you delivered something.
Hans

Why the blind defending? he made this mess by his own hands, no one told that guy to make silly announcements and silly comments on irc. The users are certainly not to blame for getting pissed off with stupid amateurs and their stupid lies, the trio are bad enough on their own without the likes of troika and ack adding more poisen to the Amiga.

| @Derfs That´s nonsens. Adam is responsible for this comments by his own (as Troika is, too). But you are right: The Amiga scene didn´t deserve such a comedy.
