That sounds reasonable. Could you try DHRY2OD benchmark (see post 57) for better comparison?

Note: Use frameskip=0 in DosBox settings.

On SAM460? That result is artificial, try some demanding game (eg. Doom) to see yourself. I estimate 5000-1000 CPU cycles could be ideal for SAM460.

i understand one think ... hi cycle is good cpu emulation loading become faster and the dir show and dos programs become more reponsitive but ... the graphic become really much slower ...

If i set cycles 40039 windows 95 become really faster in opening and response but general graphic become slower eg:
if i open the card game in win95 is faster in setup the cards and in move operations but is slow in moving the cards round the video.

with my test i can say the best result dosbox geve with the cpu cycle 7500 to 9000 ...
with cycles 7500 windws 3.11 for workgroup need exactly 2 second for loading and start and the solitarie game is good in card moving on the screen


My setting is with cpu type 486_slow and vga_s3 frameskip = 0


plus dosbox is using Sdl and sdl on amiga os 4 is really slow compared with Amigfx if some one will made an amigfx port for sure will be better :)

Half true. There is maximal CPU cycles setting your computer can achieve, above that is no gain in speed. As I wrote, reported numbers with high fixed CPU settings are artificial. On fast computer, 20000 CPU cycles is close to 486DX/2 66 MHz.

Nonesense. DosBox for OS4 has really good "normal" CPU emulation (in comparison to other platforms). One can´t expect miracles with non-dynamic CPU core and Pentium III class CPU (460EX).

yes default is auto ... but auto is slow cpu and faster graphic ... not really good setting on sam and Aos4 better use a fixed and "slow" config but for sure better config :)

no the best dosbox is the morphos version right now... more optimized for the os :)

the dosbox Aos4 is buggy ... if i make a cycle more hi of 9999 with a fat img disk the system gave me a great DSI ...

Sorry to bother you again, could you try DHRY2OD with default settings (CPUtype=auto)? Only to see if it makes difference.

According to benchmarks I saw, I still think CPU emulation in the OS4 version is more optimised. Corto did great work.

More CPU cycles than 9000 doesn´t make sense on your hardware (but that is your choice).

Sure, 80386 12 MHz performance is not suited for Win3.11... It seems cpu cycles=max setting doesn´t work good on 460EX.

For games, best setting would be probably 8000 CPU cycles, frameskip 2. Windows need frameskip 0, so your current setting is probably the best. Do you use any interesting Windows applications?

yes i say before dosbox for Os 4 is buggy... if i use normal core it crash
or if i use a Img hd with a cycle up 9999 is for sure a DSI

Note: i have a goldengate 486@50mhz and there Quake is really slooooow too

i used soft windows on an old g3 mac and was great on an G3 300 ...
on mac mini g4 sofwindows95 was ultra mega super faster...
If bochs was emulating a slower cpu (pentium one or a 486 Dx2) instead a pentium II/III probably will be more faster and usable with our machines

Bochs is roughly as fast as DosBox in CPU emulation. There are only two solutions I think:

1) Dynamic CPU core for DosBox (now only in x86 version) - roughly 4 times faster than normal core. Until now, nobody was able to port it to PowerPC.
2) QEMU. As fast as dynamic CPU core in DosBox, supports big image files (HDD), supports CD-ROM. However requires advanced memory management functions not present in OS4/MorphOS, I was told.

I think that's probably more to do with the bus. Running Quake on a 16-bit data bus... er... :)

Of course.

Still, even on fast bus, it would be slow due to slow FPU.
