@Spectre660

As far as I remember, it's included in the CD but not enabled in Kickstart, since it's a beta version..

@Hans

Not entirely related to this topic, but will the new Radeon drivers be made available to 440 users at some point?

>>It's a Digitus DS-33101 which uses Sil3512. I am also using that PCI card.
http://www.digitus.info/produkte/zubehoer/interface-karten/pc-interface-karten/sata-ide/sata-150-raid-pci-karte-2-port-ds-33101/
Digitus also makes PCI-E cards, I guess we (sam460 owners) should open a bounty for this PCI-E SATA-II cards
What do you think ?

That is great! Thank you for letting me know.
Does this card work? If so I am going to buy one, everyone with a SAM460ex should

Is it possible to have a 4 port model instead of just 2?

@Spectre660

The SATA connector I referred to in point 2 in the long post above, is a connector emanating from the PSU. If it supplies no power that is an argument for returning the PSU in favour of a better one with quiet operation.

On other matters it looks like I can get a low profile ATI Radeon HD 4650. Someone is working on a PCI-e sata controller for those with higher aspirations but when is unknown.

Yes, it will eventually be available to users of all AOS 4 hardware.

The HD4670 card that arrived today didn't fit.
Well. If I removed the fan and shortened som legs of some of the components on the sata 3114 controller it would. But I wait until there is some drivers for a pci-e1x sata controller.
I'm happy with my 4350 now since Hans has fixed the issue.

Don't wish to experiment with this 460 until I have a backup one.

Btw. The sata 3114 has 4 sata ports. Port A and B is active in U-Boot and the other two is active when its booted.

I have one question:
Here: amiganews It
one user said that his memory works at 575 Mhz, but in my sam460ex in Uboot I read that the memory runs at 460 Mhz. I also have 800 Mhz Kingston memory. So why I don't have 575 Mhz?

Yes confusions departed when I got that sorted, everything boots in the prescribed order. A different PSU supplies four good sata feeds and is much quieter. I recommend cases without PSU so one can select ones own - unless a good one is in the box already of course.

A 4650 graphics card is on its way but most suppliers give us the thumbs down on the 4000 series - they have been replaced by the 5000 series etc and what about the 6000 series . . . ? How long does a series remain in the market?

This is being written from the SAM460. For some reason I can't do copy and paste from the keyboard (yet).

A bit offtopic, but did any of radeonhd drivers support compositing for now ? While its not so important as 3d, still, fancy enough and make feels of OS a bit more complete with it. As i see on your site, many of cards not have compositing working for now, but just to be sure: maybe some of them already have it ? And if none of them, what the main problem with it ? (interesting in technical details about)

As Antique said, the Radeon X1000 series of cards have fully working compositing. I'm in the process of implementing compositing for Radeon HD cards at the moment. There are no problems aside from compositing being quite a bit more complicated than the other HW acceleration functions.

DVI output happens to work at some resolutions on some cards. For example, it just happens to work at 1920x1080 on my Radeon HD 4650, but not at low resolutions (e.g., I can't see the boot picture). This is really a matter of luck; the DVI output configuration registers just happen to be set up correctly when the output is enabled. However, other cards happen to not be set up correctly for the desired resolution, and so this is officially not supported, yet. DVI output for the newer cards will come.

Very happy to say I'm now the proud owner of a SAM 460... I could only afford the board this month but got it jury rigged from borrowed parts from my PC last night enough to boot it up. Used a very cheap SII 4113 SATA contoller in the PCI slot to get multiple SATA ports working. All in worked very smoothly.

I've got an old PCI-X Radeon X300 (don't know if these are supposed to work or not...) that work were throwing out, I plugged that into the PCI-X slot but my monitor simply reported no signal. I couldn't get Scout on it to look at the bus but it was as though the board didn't see the card at all.

Onboard video worked fine though.

The atiradeon driver may have partial support for such cards, but I'm not sure. The Radeon HD driver definitely doesn't support those older cards.

It's a little bit suspicious that you cannot see the card. Try Ranger, it is able to list PCI cards, and it should appear in the list. If it doesn't, then something is wrong at a hardware level.

Hans

P.S. PCI-Express is abbreviated to PCI-E (or PCIe) because PCI-X is yet another standard (not used much, AFAIK)
