Are they (the secret donors) happy that AmigaOS exists like it is now? What are the ideas for the future? Is is planned to stick to PPC or is it planned to port it to X86 or ARM? And I would like it when there would be a open discussion about the future between the parties involved and it would be good if the deciders would take part (even anonym if that is really necessary) Last edited by OlafS25 on 02-Apr-2013 at 02:11 PM. This isn't really a "secret". Everyone who can count with his 10 fingers were able to conclude that there's funding in the AmigaOS 4.x project besides the money that will come in through sold licences. _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

Sorry but the shareholders are going to sit this one out and you can be glad that they do because they are the ones funding AmigaOS 4.x development for over a decade without any financial return. |
to sit something out in business involves usually an expectation that the investment will massively pay off some day, i dont see how that might happen. how is your prospect on that? |

| I don't see any reason why A-EON should buy Hyperion. At the limit, could make sense if A-EON bought Amiga Inc. and its marks. But this is just vaporware.
Instead, the idea of using Kickstarter to finance development of a new AmigaOne could make sense. _________________ A1200/020+68882 - 6 MB RAM - AmigaOS 3.0

If Hyperion only paid out 100K, that means a whole bunch of original OS4 Devs did not get paid or paid just pennies on the EURO. Less the original OS4 Devs were paid in Hyperion stock (or they took pennies on the EURO), I have my doubts that Hyperion has the license for the source code license for all of OS4, just the object code license. That would make a huge legal reason for Hyperion to stay PPC.

What are they getting for that amount of backing?! Is there some company out there secretly running PowerPC AmigaOS clusters such that funding $100k a year is a better deal for them than porting their system to any other platform? |

I am pretty sure, that AmigaOS is just a hobby of Ben Hermans.
Hyperion is probably making military applications together with varisys.
So the OS is just used for that - and a little amount of money is used to make the AmigaOS as we know it.
No, I can't prove, that this is the real situation, but I am really sure it works this way.
Just take a look at the varisys webpage... _________________ Sometimes we give people a lot of credit just because they're writing nice sentences even if it isn't adding up to much. |

What does "sit this one out" mean, btw? Are your imaginary investors waiting for that one big deal to work out? The one that goes through despite all the legal question marks and makes everybody rich and happy? Good luck with that one. |
That they will support Amiga OS4 development to the sweet or bitter end, imaginary investors ? that didnt take long to make up, and what legal questions do you think remain ?._________________

Yes of course AmigaOS as a consumer/desktop system is a hobby because you do not earn money with it. It would be interesting to hear from the "deciders" what they plan for it. Interesting speculation... |

off topic (I'm sorry): I am playing around with AROS and it's really fun.
I am right now discovering about the basic rules of how to adapt a theme - so the answer to your question is: I am just starting... _________________ Sometimes we give people a lot of credit just because they're writing nice sentences even if it isn't adding up to much. |

(ot) you just need to figure out the elements it consists of. they are png files renamed to get rid of the*.png extension. usually the name is "default". reneme them to .png again so you can edit them in any gfx package you want and then rename them back in order to get them working. that way you can check for necessary sizes even if you want to work from the scratch. themes themselves are located in \System\Themes. the active theme is activated from system-startup i believe, though on 68k this part is currently disabled and lacking by default. on x86 you can check the s-s to verify that. |
