Personally, I'm looking forward to what Arix may be. And yeah, I may be disappointed, but I find it strange to complain about a project before it's even released.
I saw the post where the person delved into the location, photos, and all that other stuff -- very bizarre. I think everyone here realizes that Arix isn't backed by a large corporation or anything like that.
Anyway, we'll all find out later today more about the project.

You wouldn't find it so bizarre if you understood that the guy behind Arix has done similar projects in the past that turned out to be all smoke and mirrors....and no substance. I think that just from the name of this latest project alone, that one can conclude that this is nothing to get excited about. Just another version of Aros hosted on Linux, hence the name Arix. He will continue to imply that Arix is something new and groundbreaking and not really a host OS. With all this in mind, maybe now you will understand why so many people in this forum are so skeptical. We've seen all this before and we're getting a bit tired of it. |

If it turns out to be smoke and mirrors, then yeah, I can understand why people would complain... although to me, it'd make more sense after info on the project is released. I just find it odd that people feel a need to start listing photos of the guy's house, or dismiss the project based on the accuracy of the countdown timer.
I ran across an old forum post on Arix, on Aros Exec, from 2012, so suspect it is something like discussed there. But again, we will know for certain soon enough. |

Why does people complain tho? Its not costing anyone anything.
Having people being creative (to whatever degree that might be) in the amiga scene cant be a bad thing. More options and all that.
But for some people the glass is always half empty, no matter what. |

Seriously? Youve been told by a few people, on a few different forums that its not linux hosted. Just because dammy is involved it doesnt mean theres nothing new. The list of people behind it reads something akin to a who's who list of AROS low level developers. Do you really think itd require that sort of coding talent to produce something that already exists? (a lot of which was written already by ARIX developers).
I really dont understand people who seem to live for being negative towards something they claim to not be interested in. At least let it become publicly available before you go on a misinformation tirade. |

you've 'hit the nail on the head' there with that comment. this toxic phenomenon plagues our community and is -- at least for me -- the biggest turn off about the amiga. there are a few sad, obsessed people that have made the forums a very unpleasant place to frequent for the rest of us who just want to enjoy our hobby in peace.
you'd think this collection of silicon and code we call the amiga was the basis for a holy war or something.

btw, to put it in a relative context i am not sure if im personally so much interested in arix, yet im rather positive towards it, just because attitude behind aros i find a encouraging one and the developers i trust becuase of their previous achievements.Last edited by wawa on 17-Nov-2013 at 09:41 PM. More like just over an hour according to my view.
Besides is this new "placeholder" text?

Now the long countdown is over, the site is open, and I ask myself what it is that you intended to do properly, having only one chance to do so.
For the love of god please take this as a genuine puzzlement, not a detrimental comment or hateful bashing or anything else. I am just puzzled.
There are a few pages which would take in the worst case one day to develop. A couple screenshots with a strongly perceivable feeling of unfinishedness. A hint at something being downloadable "in a few weeks".
If this was the planned content, there was no need for a countdown and building all this anticipation. If this wasn't, then the "do it properly" thing went wrong.
If nothing else, I suppose that now you can at least share WHAT exactly Arix is! |
