@klx300r

From their facebook page. Looking through the site it would seem that the about page is simply a stripped down version of the one they posted. I am still curious how they are going to leverage this one.

Well? I am starting to getting tired of all this puzzle thing. And please have in mind that I am VERY positive about new stuff on the Amiga world.

I was waiting for a site AT LEAST with a list of hardware that the new OS would run at, some videos, some screen shots AND a download of the first beta.

Instead of all these I got one more "two more weeks" statement and some more quiz screen shots.

Ok no problem to wait a little bit. BUT in general I have an advice:

"Do not make useless teasers unless you got something real to present to the people".

Ah yes and a personal opinion based on the screen shot. Can I? Thanks.

Get rid of those crappy icons. Use the ones coming with the Icaros desktop instead. The current ones, suck.

@Morphix

Yeah, I was expecting way more there, too. Particularly an ISO to download.

@metalmac

+1

the website is a little "thin" regarding informations and they knew that people are waiting for it. Hopefully they will add it today.

For that hilarious countdown the content is pretty thin.
A rather failed first impression.

@OlafS25

Thin is a understatement. There was more info when Dammy had apparently put the "filler" text on the site. Like others I am interested to see what this project turns out like. But I feel they shot themselves in the foot when they put a 30 day timer on the site. If they didn't have the content to show then why bother with a timer. Why not just say "Hey we have a site for our new project!" when it was ready.

You are right that the start is not perfect. On the other hand I read comments from at least two persons who are using Arix and are enthusiastic. So I hope it becomes better and we get all informations and a download very soon.

Well, from the screenshot on the website, it looks like it is SMP enabled.

Anyway, I am really looking forward to it and personally I would love to use a system that seemingly unites AROS with Linux by preserving the Amiga feeling, has compatibility with old programs (perhaps via a transparent UAE integratio), can run native AROS programs and has finally get rid of the driver problem by taking advantage of the linux side. Running linux programs shouldn't be a top priority imho at the beginning.

@OlafS25

We will see what happens. I am interested to see what the outcome is. Yet this needlessly cryptic rubbish we have been seeing is annoying. It all reminds me of CUSA when they would make a announcement, which in turn would be an announcement for a announcement yet to come. Only for them to bugger something up and retract statements. If it had been me I would have scrapped the timer, done the website on a locally hosted machine (using whichever CMS) as to avoid people snooping, had screenshots ready showing off the OS doing stuff that average users would do and just parked the domain ready for the launch with a static image or something. ISO images aren't necessary if you're still in development but if your wanting to put on a good show to get people interested there are better ways. Now its just comes off amateurish.

But it's time we ignored that, time Dammy and Terminills (also whoever else is involved) actually gave us solid info about the project.

I don't need much of an excuse to complain ;) Ask my wife and she will testify to that.

@CritAnime

Yes it reminds a little at CUSA (and lots of other examples in amiga-history) but there are people using it already and like it, the developer-list includes some of the best AROS-developers so I am hopeful the result will be worth the waiting.

I hope they will release the informations and either offer a download to the ISO or at least have lots youtube-videos showing it at action.

@Dammy

Next time:

- no teasers
- no countdowns
- no premature announcements

Just a humble and honest:

"Here is it"

It could be a download, even a beta or alpha version would be ok or It could be a project description with or without screenshots.

---

This is just a hobby, there are no big companies involved in the "Amiga Market", and this action doesn't make you look more serious. Only some die hard fools believe in big announcements made for the left over hobby market.

Don't make you look like a fool.

A simple "Here is it" would be a much more dramatic effect, to people that are used to read announcements.

I still remember the Anubis project; a Aros like system with a Linux kernel and an advanced API would have been a great idea. But there was nothing but a big announcement that damaged Aros’ reputation

I've seen several people mention this. These guys formed a company and you can already apply to be a beta tester. I'm pretty sure we're talking commercial product here, I wouldn't expect any free downloads.

As for the website: no surprise there, obviously. Now lets take bets what step 2 is going to be?

(a) an exodus from existing forums, "because of the haters"
(b) getting as close as possible to some trademark
(c) delays

In the age of videos I had rather preferred to see some Youtube videos even of an Alpha (and even if still "full of bugs") version of ARIX, showing it running on xyz linux drivers supported hardware, and doing 3D renderings on a multicore environent...

You know... Just to have a sample taste of it...

Welcome to the official site of The Arix Foundation! Throughout the week will be posting screenshots and information about our company and our product so be sure to check back here and on the Arix OS Facebook page for updates. Thank you for your support and patience as we launch our site, we appreciate your interest and look forward to showing you what we have been working on.

They have updated the front page again. Dropping the mission statement thing and replacing it with the above update.

I will just wait. Maybe I will get a beta who know :)
