@ferrels

No the user space is AROS. Or is "AHI" a Linux component? Completely new to me.

BTW why are you on your crusade against Arix? You are obviously not interested to ever use it so why raising all the dust? I do not understand that...

@ferrels

You're our hero. Now go to ARIX developers and teach them what they are really doing!

But please don't come back. Thanks

but you can install linux-components that use the linux kernel?

No, not really. There nearly nothing that any linux components could use, there is actually no real linux filesystem on the hard drive. The only thing visible to linux kernel is small tmpfs (initrd image loaded together with linux kernel) with few virtual filesystems mounted (e.g. procfs or sysfs). The filesystem used on the hard drive by arix is not visible to the linux kernel at all.

Looking at the graphic would I be right in thinking they are using Linux kernel for the virtual memory subsystem? Or are they meaning Virtual Machine?

I hate it when people just stick acronyms into stuff without context lol.

must be a false flag operation. ehe is stirring so much attention while repeatedly making dumb accusations that i must assume dammy hired him for another arix hype stunt. lol!

I am still worried though since linux does not have a microkernel which i fear might affect things like how responsive the the system is.

In theory, monolithic kernels should offer slightly better performance - all other things being the same. Microkernels are more secure(most mission-crtitical (RT)OSes are mikrokernel).

Must be only in theory then. Everything I have experienced and read shows the exact opposite.

I'm guessing then that the Arix kernel, where it is placed between the user space and the Linux is translating Linux specific behaviors into Amiga specific ones...

Ah ferrels, let me quote what you've said on www.amiga.org.

Quote:
I actually have a masters degree in computer science from the Univ. of Maryland and a bachelors in the same field from the Univ. of Tampa

Since you have masters degree in computer science, perhaps you could enlighten us and tell us a definition of an Operating System as you've surely learned during "Operating Systems" class.

@michalsc

I do not know if you can say that now. Linux offers some nice features like SMP, MP and 64bit. From AROS there is already a 64bit version. How much memory is adressable now (64bit)? From screenshots on facebook there were two processors visible. Are they full supported in Arix OS? And is MP possible?

Ferrels, Olaf, I hope this will help you to better understand Arix's architecture once and for all.

Regarding native 64-bit AROS I have tested it with my own machine and it worked just fine with 16GB of ram. Theoretical limit for our TLSF memory allocator on 64-bit systems is 128GB, currently. If needed, the limit can be increased though.

ARIX should be able to handle the same amounts.

More CPUs are used internally by ARIX, the API is not provided yet. It's not an SMP design, rather similar to AMP. Currently, IO disk operations are scheduled over all CPUs available. The design is still subject of change.
