@Rob

3d accelerated software has an advantage as soon as the data (textures) have been sent over the slow bus to video ram to be manipulated there. as a framebuffer voodoo suffers as much as any other card on mediator. with 7mb/s you can drive a low res 320x240 sdl game at a reasonable framerate but you will struggle with 640x480 or 800x600 which is whats usually least expected. same when using the fancy hollywood effects and wipes. all that will slideshow with mediator but work well with vampire.

@wawa

If i good remember the transfer rate in z3 in a4k Was about 16mb/s. Probably it is a supposition the vampire v4 will have a faster rate or the bus will be a big bottle neck in This case.

@tlosm

The V4 is powered by 512MB of DDR3. Specs from August say up to 1GB/s.

http://www.apollo-core.com/knowledge.php?b=1¬e=7626

Should give a nice boost to any software-based 3D.

this depends on a device. the rate you bring up is possible with cv64 afair, achieved by pulling some tricks on the bus. even fastlane doesnt perform that well and i repeatedly measured myself voodoo3 to be two times slower.

Right, Picasso IV did some 12 MB/s max and other cards mostly still slower. CV64 was probably the fastest on ZorroIII.

with Cosmos Quake 1.10

With this version 1.10, I have removed about 49 emulated Fpu instructions. I have another version with included fsin & fcos (no more 68060.library calls too) never released, because not really faster on true 060...

(The internal copyroutine is very bad for me in this game (both 020 & 060 versions), maybe we can get an interesting speedup with some rework...)

Have you tested Hollywood under Vampire or the above statement was based as an assumption? Because I get completely different results. Just two weeks ago, at the recent amicamp party in Athens, I tested my wip craktro (380x284 res. double buffering with hardware acceleration) and it was crawling barely at 7 fps, on tabor (with all latest drivers) it reached just 15, whereas on Sam460/OS4.1FE along with my PMAC G4 MorphOS it capped the max fps limit I 've set (60).
