Without any optimization at all, yes
Gunnar stated that Apollo 68080 has a "Little Endian Compatibility Mode" that could considerabily boost X86 emulation if used by any emulator. This, plus 68080 optimized code, could IMHO emulate either a very fast 486 or low end Pentium
EDIT: Plus, SAGA can provide compartibility with standard PC GFX modes (I guess EGA/VGA screen modes), that if used by the emulator would speed up things even more Last edited by ErikBauer on 01-Aug-2018 at 02:38 PM.

That would be cca 1/3 of native performance. Not impossible, but I doubt anyone will make such emulation. |

I suppose that Jim Drew could build a specific version of'his PC emulator for the Vampire. Other possibility is to reverse engineer PC Task and do a binary patch. |

Does it work with some Windows only games or applications (eg. MS Works/MS Office)? Plain boot is - well - not that much useful. |

I see that Gunnar is stating...
"existing x86 FPGA cores are slower than running PC-Task on AMIGA with APOLLO."
This is MiSTer with ao486 core, running win98:

Gunnar says a lot of things :P
If the 2 videos above are any indication though, it's like a snail with an elongated perception of time, travelling through molasses (apollo core running pc-task) vs. a regular thinking snail doing it's thing unhindered (ao486). |

Indeed, and he has a certain "distortion field" around him._________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

I think his ways of exaggerating the capabilities of the Apollo Core products seriously hurts his own project. That is what I think._________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

Admittedly he seems to be sometimes overenthusiastic but it seems to be part of his motivation. You should not take everything 100% seriously what he says. The vast majority of vampire owners seem to be happy with what they get, I can only remember of few owners moaning. You do not do a favor to you too. Seriously hurting would only be true if lots of people would buy it based on unrealistic expectations and are disappointed but that is not the case. Most people are aware of what they get. The few that are constantly moaning on almost any amiga forum are no longer taken seriously too... |

The MISTER is using the 486 instructions in the fpga pratically is not like the vampire ... vampire is emulating and result look like good for the old PCTask 4. Will be cool have that ao486 core running on the fpga on the vapire for see how it performs _________________ I love Amiga and new hope by AmigaNG A 500 + ; CDTV; CD32; PowerMac G5 Quad 8GB,SSD,SSHD,7800gtx,Radeon R5 230 2GB; MacBook Pro Retina I7 2.3ghz; #nomorea-eoninmyhome |

MiSTer is the best existing (existing = buyable) Amiga FPGA solution.
It's cheaper than Vampire will ever be and cheaper than all the other FPGA Emulators capable running Minimig.

I think Gunnar also factors in the potential within the Apollo Core, if programs are adapted to utilize the new features, like AMMX.
Its obviously a moot point as long as the authors doesnt tweaks their software, or open source it.
And for the most part, I also think its mostly the Vampire users that gets carried away, not the team itself. They are mostly pretty restrained. |

No, he means literally what he says, there's no need to interpret him._________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |
