the romsplit is hardcoded towards particular kickstart versions. it wont disassemble antything else. why do you need to do that? |

Because when you buy these ROMs from them they send you a zip file that has the ROMs for all the machines in it, but they are all in a single .rom file like used in WinUAE, NOT in a format for actually writing to an EPROM for use in a real machine.
A4000, 1200, 3000 and 4000T versions need to be split and bite swapped somehow.

A-Eon is releasing software for OS3 and OS4. They "love" both platforms.
Why shouldn't Hyperion? It's all income/revenue. Both parties "win" when both the OS3 and OS4 ecosystems grow.
|
Read my post again! I wrote that Hyperion hasn't any resources or interest in further developing anything for AmigaOS3.x, not that they shouldn't have that interest. I agree with you that Hyperion SHOULD put some small effort into providing updates and back porting parts of AmigaOS4 to AmigaOS3, but I am pretty sure they never will, until they are no longer able to sell anyone on AmigaOS4.x.
Their thinking makes no sense (or not much sense) to me, since they are so desperately under funded for development. I would think that they should explore all possibilities for additional income, just like they did when deciding to release these new Workbench and Kickstart files for sale. |

Hey we both agree something SHOULD be done with OS3.x development.
I'm not sure what Hyperion is thinking, but we have to remember this is a very small-potatoes company working in a small market. I don't think there is even more than one person working paid full-time on OS4.
There is some encouraging noise about something going on with A-Eon/AmigaKit/Cloanto. Maybe they are working with Hyperion to get something happening with OS development? Maybe that is why the silence? We just have to wait and see. Two more weeks.

| @cgutjahr Years even, seriously I have not seen anyone reporting it. In fact I just wanted to buy it from HP and just found out I can't. In all this IP wars I found it relevant. Kamelito |

There's no need to recall, since people posted almost immediately.

So you could say immediately and it never reappeared, only the name instances of Workbench were changed to AmigaOS Workbench, including the bugfix announcement I linked to in the trademark thread.

Well, it's not there so it was pulled. I'd say that Hyperion is not in the clear though, since they are still using the Workbench trademark. I think it's clear that Ben Hermans tactics is to combat in the gray area for as long as possible, to let as much time pass as possible, so he can somewhere down the line claim that Hyperion has been using the Workbench mark for a product [albeit not for sale on the market, but still available to customers as an update] in an upcoming legal discussion/opposition about his rights to claim the Workbench trademark in a different jurisdiction. That was most certainly the whole purpose of releasing their "Workbench 3.1" product in the first place (and why they haven't bothered with it since, other than the "update" that's still visible), to have it on public display so to be able to claim the Workbench mark at some point. Hybrid warfare in the same way as when Russia invaded Crimea. Or when Hyperion robbed OS4 from Amiga Inc for that matter.

BTW, do you know if Hyperion's "Workbench" is still for sale through some third party dealer?

No. I have not even considered that as a possibility.
I think if someone did, and supplied a direct link, there would be another take down order, don't you?

| So now Hyperion are selling kickstarts that are crippled without workbench.library and icon.library, and they are not able to sell the OS3.1 disks? Ha ha ha ha, hilarious.
The idea of decoupling kickstart rom and workbench boot medium is silly. Last edited by kolla on 11-Jun-2017 at 08:34 PM.

Hyperion has never owned the OS. Neither has Hyperion ever owned the registered Workbench trademark. Cloanto on the other hand owns it all, if they speak the truth (which I see no reason whatsoever to doubt), they even own the OS first launched with the Amiga 1000 that Timothy mentions, and AFAIK they have been selling it since 1997. I truly believe that they have all necessary documentation in order. Hyperion was kind of late in the game in that regard, and again, they have never been the owner, so... |

Good points.
I wonder how difficult it is for A-Eon to walk this tightrope of supporting both Hyperion, who they depend on to provide an OS for their hardware, and Colanto's owner, which I believe Trevor has had a long time friendship with?
It is just one more ugly situation that Amiga users find themselves having to go through, and having no control over, except perhaps by voting with their wallets, but that is hard to do when there is only one place to get AmigaOS4 from, if you choose to support A-Eon, who so far have packaged that OS with their hardware, and it is the primary OS the hardware is designed to run. At least X5000 owners will soon have a choice to run a different Amiga-Like OS, and won't only be dependent on Hyperion and AmigaOS4.Last edited by BoingBear on 12-Jun-2017 at 12:30 AM.

Eliminate the question mark and add business.
