the AmigaOne XE G4 system is out, since the on-board NIC died and I can't find a suitable replacement card that I can use (every slot was used up for other stuff that didn't work right on the board either). |
You could try using USBADM8511 device. I understand it was used with Tabor before the onboard NIC got a driver so hopefully some of the beta testers will be able to point you in the direction of a compatible adapter that's available to buy. |

I already tried to do custom kickstart, tested it with WinUAE.
Problem is that I could not get new Exec work. Everything else works, but with BB2 exec. If I add new exec to kickstart, it doesn't work. |

Is someone selling updated ROMs? I don't want to go thru the hassle of burning my own. I would have expected Hyperion or a partner to Hyperion make new roms available to buy??
BTW, great news on OS 3.1.4. I would have called it 3.10. But alas, can it completely replace OS 3.9 BB4? Does it work with PowerPC? (eg. will the existing PowerPC software from phase 5 or H&P work on OS 3.1.4?) There were lots of work-arounds put in that old software because of bugs and anomolies. Now that those bugs and anomolies are fixed, will the older software (that in most cases will not ever be updated) break?
Is there a tcp/ip stack included like there was in OS 3.9? Last edited by HammerD on 04-Oct-2018 at 02:55 AM. Last edited by HammerD on 04-Oct-2018 at 02:54 AM. @HammerD
You could get an updated ROM from buyICnow.com, they sell eproms and also have eprom burning service for 0.5$, just buy some 27c400 and send them the kickstart file. http://www.buyicnow.com/ser.php?i=1

| I went to buy a set yesterday, but as soon as the Hyperion webshop detected my Norwegian IP adress it decided to add 25% VAT go the purchase. The thing is that in norway, any purchase from foreign webshops is tax&duty free if the total amount is below NOK 350, so this buy should not invoke adding the VAT. I did try to send a mail to the webmaster, but I suspect my chances to get a reply is slim.

We all know that in particular, information tends to get lost in longer threads. It's been 4 days now, right?
Please consider encouraging Hyperion to post a "news" story about this release on AW, where you can include links (that won't get lost) to all of your fine documentation that you have posted prior.
Just a thought....and an obvious one I might add.
Also, as I suggested on Amiga.org (and I don't see any change whatsoever yet), please fix the Hyperion facebook page. It's intolerable to see this page still basically say "we have no right to distribute in the U.S.". After all, that is Hyperion talking and not a dissenting poster.
Source
Thanks.

I got a very quick reply from Hyperion webmaster on my VAT question. All transations are handled by Avangate/2checkout, so I was encurraged to contact them directly with my issue. |

No, this is just the "classic lineup" of what AmigaOS 3.1 would offer. A TCP/IP stack is still something extra.
If I remember correctly, the TCP/IP stack bundled with AmigaOS 3.9 was a time-limited trial version. This is not an idea which I believe is worth emulating.
It was the arduous task of getting a trial version of Miami to ship with AmigaOS 3.5 and then almost as much trouble with the AmigaOS 3.9 update which personally convinced me that bundling trial versions of software with your main product is detrimental to the quality of your product and will alienate your customers rather than entice them to give the bundled software a try.

| Maybe one day in a not too distant future, this will no longer be piracy but instead an official product sold by proper merchants on proper physical media and there will no longer be a need for people to handcraft their own KS ROM chips out of EEPROM’s.
When that day happens, I hope it will also be given a version number that correctly reflects the magnitude of its evolutionary bump, using the proper Commodore [version].[revision] format instead of this *nix blasphemy. The proper version would perhaps have been 4.0 but for political reasons (the “4.x” is already claimed by a different project in this ecosystem) maybe 3.2 will have to suffice. I also hope that the rainbow checkmark symbol will be reintroduced instead of the blasphemous boing ball that normally is associated with that previously mentioned “4.x” product (and should be kept that way). Of course the OS should also be cleansed from all blasphemous references to “Hyperion” in copyright notices and such.
When that day comes, I would consider actually buying it. As in paying money for it. Which I won’t do for pirated materials. Especially not so when the money doesn’t benefit the developers behind it, but instead goes directly into the war treasury chest of the corporate entity that single-handed is responsible for destroying everything that once was beautiful about Amiga and the opportunities and hope of a future it once had. I don’t want to feed any more lawyers going rampage on this platforms fine legacy. Instead I want that crap to go away. |

Genesis (based on AmiTCP), the TCP/IP stack which came with AmigaOS 3.9, is *not* a "time limited trial version". It may be a special version for AmigaOS 3.9 with some limitations (lack of direct support?), but it is full featured including 68020 optimized code with good performance and a nice GUI. It is not perfect as it does use too much memory due to compiler issues (a quick cleanup of the "Genesis" program took it from 109840 to 92820 bytes with more possible) and there are a few bugs like the icon snapshot bug which I fixed, but it is overall a nice TCP/IP stack (not to be little other fine Amiga TCP/IP stacks). There are rumors that the company it was licensed from was never paid.
