@eliyahu

Is that what Trevor said in the article then? "Don't worry just buy a X5000!" Surely someone knows the gist of what was said?

@outlawal2

Sorry about that perception. I just thought if it was good news that it would have spread to discussions here by now.

@Thread

Maybe it's being launched at Amiga34?

@Comi

It is all water under the bridge now. The Vampire V4 Standalone IS being launched at Amiga34 and A-EON have missed their window of launching first and getting the fanfare that is due to them. Sad but true that this whole "When it's done / when the court case is done" mentality is sinking the Tabor project whereas the Apollo Team's "Just do it!" seemingly Nike inspired attitude has paid dividends and will likely grab the greater proportion of Amigans' disposable income this year!

I am an AmigaOS supporter who was looking forward to the Tabor's rumoured May 2019 release but the further delay and Vampire Standalone V4 launch timing is a damaging blow to A-EON WHATEVER your position.

Double the blow is the move away from AmigaOS to AROS in the Apollo Team's plans! It indicates that AmigaOS is going nowhere until the court case is finished. Apollo are taking the 'third way' and Cloanto, A-EON and Hyperion will be left in the dirt IMHO.

Is the red laser line in the logo above highlighting the brand or does it represent the legal disintegration of the AmigaOne brand more generally?

@BigD

The Vampyre and the Tabor is not even targetet at the same audience so theres no need to compare them.

The vampyre is good for whdload gaming and the tabor...well i dont know what it can be used for??
uae for ppc is nowhere near emulating amiga as good as the vampyre.
I have heard that uae for ppc is stuck in the stone age while vampire is improving the emulation every day.

Most people who buy the vampyre will for sure not use the vampyre with Aros...
The vampyre is for autistic people who want authentic hardware and software.
Bigun is just too greedy to pay for the os.

@monstercoder

monstercoder where do you get all your wisdom?

I can only look up to you

The reason for aros (next to others) is that it is not possible to license kickstarts or have a agreement and be sure that this will be valid when court case is over (whenever this is)

the second reason is they want the os to be adapted and at least hyperion showed no interest and the two developers who do it free of charge are not interested either. So there is only aros as a realistic option. And aros solves all the third party problems including additional components like RTG, AHI, Network stack, USB stack. So there are good reasons to support it. The user are free to use whatever they want, if only aros, aros and 3.1 or only 3.1

And yes both products are different but they target the same audience... amiga fans

perhaps some are not interested in "classic" but I assume the majority is

Oh course there is. Those of us that may have been tempted by a more forward looking PPC based Tabor may now give up waiting and give the Vampire a punt. If our only Amiga experience has been Classic machines then we don't know what we are missing regarding OS4.x and may be happy with a faster 68k system with RTG screens and HDMI output etc

Disposable income is finite and A-EON WILL now lose sales IMHO.

And personally I am still going to wait for the Tabor as I am not interested in paying that much money for the Vampyre Standalone unless I can definitely use it with 3.1.4 (or at least 3.1) and at this point this is still a question mark. I really have no interest in Aros at that price point so I will continue to wait for Tabor.

As usual, the folks that own the rights to what little bit of Amiga is left continue to bicker over the rotting corpse, and what few followers are left are the ones that suffer for it.

Ah well it has been YEARS of waiting for Tabor already, what is a year or so more?

REALLY wish someone with lots of cash would buyout all of them and put together a cohesive company made up of competent individuals and provide a decent roadmap moving forward.

But this will not happen.

"... a year or so more?"

Are you getting that from the Amiga Future magazine article or just the fact the machine is driver crippled still and robbed of its trade mark until the court case is over?

Just a guess based on the court case... As far as the driver goes I still don't understand why they don't simply include an extra PCIe slot on all these new Amiga NextGen machines and then write a driver for some PCI Express sound card and call it good. Then moving forward they can include THAT card with the board and not have to rewrite the drivers every time.. Seems ridiculous to hold the entire project hostage due to a damned sound driver...

I think there will be more information on Tabor, eventually. Trevor goes to the shows, so I don't think the whole thing is just going to die without an explanation. At this point, though, no news is probably bad news.

AFAIK it is some other component - a more central one than the soundcard driver - that causes problems on the Tabor.

@Trixie

Maybe the FPU interpretter? I heard that that component was working remarkably well so I don't know what to think.

@BigD

Yeah, it could be the FPU "trampoline" code. It might work well with some programs and not others. We can only wonder.

It would be nice if they would just start over with a T-series CPU and do it right.

@bison

They're too invested in it now to start over (there are units sitting at AmigaKit as far as I know) but will it sell in any numbers when the 68k resurgence seems far more exciting right now!

All "Amiga NextGen machines" after 2005 are based SoC never intended for desktop PCs (the X1000 is the odd one out with it's NOS CPU) hence massive number of PCIe-lanes not being a design priority.
