| It seems as if I am running out of ram when running Pagestream, and updating a kanji dictionary I am compiling.
I set up workbench to display amount of fast ram, and the amount used.
It would seem that once I have my A1XE booted i am using 190mb. Once I have pagestream loaded I am using 253mb and once I load my 400 page dictionary I am running at around 300mb.
Is there anything I can stop loading at boot-up, that would allow me more working ram. I am running the enhancer software for my machine. I believe I have a radeon 750(?) gfx card, as well.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I hadn't used it for a while as I thought i had lost a hard drive. Then last month my psu died and having got one from Amigakit, hey presto, I have access to both hard drives again. Last edited by Swoop on 02-Dec-2019 at 11:22 AM.

I would temporarily - disable everything you don't need in WBStartup, - check User-Startup and disable what is not needed - Set WBPattern Prefs and GUI Prefs to default (RAmiga D maybe, shortcuts are not the same in every language unfortunately) - reboot your AmigaOne XE
Before you change the prefs, with this little script you can save the actual prefs, and copy them back when you are done with the project. Just copy and paste to NotePad, save to RAM: and execute the script.
Quote:
copy clone s:user-startup "s:User-Startup_`date lformat %Y-%m-%d-%H%M%S`" copy clone envarc:sys/wbpattern.prefs "envarc:sys/wbpattern_`date lformat %Y-%m-%d-%H%M%S`.prefs" copy clone envarc:sys/gui.prefs "envarc:sys/gui_`date lformat %Y-%m-%d-%H%M%S`.prefs" copy clone envarc:sys/wbstartup.prefs "envarc:sys/wbstartup_`date lformat %Y-%m-%d-%H%M%S`.prefs" | |

I have just looked at kickstart, and the Hunk.library.kmod is v53.4 (02/05/2011) is there an updated one?

You could contact the developer of Pagestream and see if they would be willing to help you. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

That would IMHO be rather pointless, as Deron Kazmaier stopped responding to his paying customers yonks ago.

It is worth to try. I got a reply from him on mid June 2019.
I wish there were enough people to motivate him to continue development of the OS4 version.. |

maybe there is, but I have a feeling OS4 has become an OS for developers and beta tester only..
Are you using the 68k version of PageStream? It is the one which works more reliably. All PPC versions are very unstable. |

I don’t think this is just AmigaOS 4.1 related. The Windows, macOS & MorphOS versions have seen little love over the years. I’ve paid for several versions of Pagestream many years ago but updates have been few and far between. Hope springs eternal though. I wish it would get the much needed updates it deserves. That would make long term customers happy. I wonder what the installed user base of Pagestream is? It’s still listed for sale new. Is anyone buying it in 2019? Pagestream was a brilliant and affordable DTP program for many years. I hope it can return to its formal glory one day but I’m not holding my breath. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

If really the amount of memory the problem, try to use the VMM. If you have 4.1 FE as your signature suggests, you can create a SWAP partition. PageStream 4.1.5.6 works well with it. I was used to use it with only 256MB for a long time on the uA1. |

When it is stable to use, perhaps i wil buy it. It is +- 100 euro. For good software it is ok. Any morph user and Pagestream? An is it stable to use? I think it is a good software app to use as a text writer. I use now Pages from apple with DTP possibilities. because i think there is not so much choice for text writers with graphic possibilities.
Many years ago i try it on my A4000 but it was not so easy to use. Learning and time ... I never use it again .

Which is plain deceptive advertising, because what the PageStream website doesn't tell you is that regardless of platform, PgS 5 is far from being finished.

It is a page layout-oriented DTP program. As such it is a bit quirky to use as a word processor.

You have to create a few GB partition with MediaToolbox and set the filesystem type to SWAP. This partition will not shown on WB, nor need to be formatted. After reboot, the system will utilize that for memory swapping. You can check it if for example %mvum is added to the WB screen title bar by the Workbench prefs.
Unfortunately I have not found any official information on that to be linked. So this is just how I remember the way I installed the system many years ago. |

You are definitively wrong on that. PageStream 4.1.5.6. runs well with Petunia (JIT). However TextFX and BME not working at all, and AFAIR disabling JIT will not helps there. Last edited by Lazi on 02-Dec-2019 at 11:34 PM.

Totally agree. I mean, if it was just a demo version to query interest, where it was perceived to be lacking then fair enough. But to do it for paying customers who have funded an updated working version, that's not on.
It's like the Holger Kruse Miami debacle all over again. Did somethng tick him off?
He doesn't have time now and just left the site running as is? Like with AEON. Sometimes I wonder. |
