@polka.

mmmm. i hope it will come. but.... 'in production' that can mean quite a lot. maybe he is still designing the blue print, that's also part of the production. let's hope he meant in production, as in being produced at a factory.

@mavherzog

;The boards were going for around $800 at the time. I decided to wait a year ;and see if prices/availability got better (and perhaps AOS 4.0 would be a bit ;more seasoned as well)...Now I see at Software Hut that the same boards are ;going for $975!!

I can sell mine for $2000

The lesson is, never wait!

I hope IKIR is correct and we get A1:s again!

Hope some does get the os4 compatible board now, better than never.

That's how I interpreted it. "In production" means "it's being produced, being manufactured".
"Designing the blue print" has nothing to do with production, that's still board "design".

Ikir did not say that "we get A1's again". If he has reliable information on that topic, I am sure that he would post it.

You got a point there because the "worst case scenario" is what happened to us in most cases when looking back.

Can't anybody give us an update or contact Adam? Even if it is not an announcement that "PV are being shipped", we'd like to know about the current status or what the problems are.

@mavherzog

I don’t think it’s the time to wait around to buy hardware, you buy when you can I did and that’s way I have hw and you have not.

Yes. But I think we will see something else. My guess is that both pieces of hardware will be sold at the same time. I think that they would at least try to do that. But if not I would agree that the PowerVixxen would be there sooner.

AW peeps, it would be cool if you wrote a letter to your local dealer and asked them when they will start selling the PowerVixen and report the result here.

If ACK Controls don't want to give any dates the dealers certainly would not tell us. In other words, if they don't tell it here you certainly will not get it from the dealers.

If they would want to announce something they certainly would do so. No info means really no info. If there is news it will be here on this site, don't worry. I can understand why they are not spreading info every 2 days. Better wait till you got something that is really worth to tell. Guesses are really no good and none of us want that. And if they do and it is like in a few weeks it still would not be good enough. Don't worry, when there is info we all will no it.

Yes, it won't be good enough unless we know the reasons for the delay. The current announcement is "end of january" and if there are changes to this, they should be so honest to tell us why and what we can expect. Honest announcements and status updates is what we need on the Amiga market after all the BS of the recent years.

Other practices like Troika with their policy of being anononymous an making "no announcements" (ok, only "2 production production runs in 2005") or Elbox with their policy of making unrealistic announcements don't support their credibility.

I agree with first part of your statement. If they "wanted" to do so they -would-.
I disagree that "no info is no info", because I believe that is somewhat subjective.
Quote:

Again, I think this is subjective as well. Here is why:

Recently, we had thread after thread here concerning the topic of OS4 release.
When @Rogue was kind enough to take the time out of his busy days to post on
this subject, the topic ceased to dominate the AW front page.
Did he give a "laundry list" of everything that was to be included in OS4?
Of course not. He gave an easily understandable short explanation as to the delay.

In short, what one person deems to be "info worth to tell" is not the same to the
next person.

Regarding our "hardware" companies, perhaps they should at least consider the
short answer "We're still with you guys. Please be patient."
Is that the info most people want to hear? Of course not. But much in the same
vein as what @Rogue posted, it IS info. And it serves to maintain a connection with
the very community they intend to serve.

Currently, following the model of saying absolutely nothing about anything is the
model that has been adopted for communication about our hardware.
Do you think absolute silence and the use of -this- model of communication is going
to gain us support in the long run?

Sorry to be so blunt.

I agree with the point you make. The short info that Rogue posted was absolutely sufficient and people knew WHY they have to wait. That makes a big difference.
Nothing is worse than waiting at the train-station without knowing why the train is not arriving and with nobody who can tell you if it will arrive ever.

Ok, I should better use the following examples:

Elbox:
"Update (09 September 2005): Early this month our Freescale distributor informed us that the expected delivery date of the first production processor batch for us would be 27 September. If this is true, which we hope, the DRAGON 1200 boards sales will start by the end of October."

Did the batch arrive? If yes, why is the Dragon not on sale since the end of October?

Troika:
"Two production runs in 2005."
FAQ: "We operate very differently than many companies, and feel that fluffed up news releases that end up empty, are not worth our time, or yours!"

ACK:
"Regarding CPU modules for the A1 boards....expect an anouncement shortly."
"The PowerVixxen LT has gone to production, docs are being polished up." "End of january give or take."

If you don't know anything, don't post cryptic questions and riddles.

Last we heard from Alan he had a hissy fit about giving people 100 NOT to have an A1. No A1's since January 2005 - because of a 'CPU' shortage and all the while genesi is shipping pegasos by the bucketload. Just what the hell are you talking about?

To me that says "before mid-February", so I'm not too worried. Although it is a bit odd that if the boards were supposedly "in production" in late December, why have there been no announcements, photos, etc. I very much doubt that they're making thousands of boards, a few hundred should have taken 2 or 3 weeks at the most (this estimate is based on how long the plant Jens Schoenfeld uses, took to produce a batch of 300 C-Ones). Unless of course, that statement meant "we just signed the contract with the manufacturer", which means that there were no PCBs produced yet, so finished boards could still be a month or two away.

Real Amiga-ish interpretation of "end of january" would be something like "somewhere in 2006, maybe, and presumed that they don't go belly up".

Even if it IS "before mid-february", now would be the perfect time to announce it's upcoming availability.

@polka/number6

What I actually meant is that if they do come out with info they usually get shot. There is always a group of people that go against any news. So at the end they might not feel like giving any info at all anymore untill it is about the selling of it. Sort of the good guys suffer from the bad. Same with Hyperion. The Frieden's take some time to post some answers and some people get really rude and next time they will not anymore. The sad fact is that even if everything would go 100% their are still some people left that just flame the news bringers down. Ah well. You always can tell when they are going to show up. Usually around the time things are getting done. So when the hardware comes out and OS4 too they will be all around us again. The harder they bitch the better we do.

It is just "normal" that there is always a group of people that go against any news. These are people who have already made up their mind or who are using such an announcement simply as an opportunity for trolling.
But why should the companies care about that? If their announcements are _honest_ all the critics will be proven wrong.
I see a lot more people whining and negative comments about a product with a "no announcement" policy. If people don't know anything about a product, they assume the worst. If nobody knows at least an estimated release date, people tend to say that it will be vapourware forever. If nobody knows who is behind a company, some will say that it's just a mockup.

There are certainly lots of topics that would get _less_ critical comments when being clarified.
