@Spirantho

Will let you know if it works on a Sam440ep .
Just went on a sound card shopping spree. One of the PCI cards from the Acube Store for my Sam460ex and one of these PCI ones for my Sam440ep-flex from another supplier .

I can't help but feel that'd look (sound?) really nice in my Sam440ep. :) It's a 3.3V card so I guess it should work!

Having Thomas (aka imagodespira) on the team is great news to me! He's a guy who really knows something about graphic design, and his work on OS4 themes is top notch.

more devs is always good but will this affect Entwicker-X future games development (e.g MACE) ?

@all

I think people think just because two devs have been signed everything will be faster or lacking commitment to entwicker-x.

Its good that both these developers are now part of the team, but all that means is they have signed the NDA and contract and will probably given jobs todo based on an allocated amount of hours. There could be times devs are not working on anything due to money or knowledge specifics.

@TheAMIgaOne

I don't think anyone has expressed those sentiments.

I'm happy because the guys produce quality products and were quick to take advantage of new features in 4.1 like the compositing to give that extra polish to the games.

I think we are likely to see improvements in the Workbench interface coming from the guy because that is something Thomas expressed interest in on the feature request forum.

So I don't expect certain things to happen quicker but I expect an expanded feature set.

@Spirantho

No output with the PCI card.
Everything shows up as normal in AHI prefs and Ranger but no sound.

@Spectre660

Have you adjusted the volume in AHI prefs? Because default the volume is mute.

@vox

I like how he's trying to reason with the audiophiles out there:

Quote:
Put simply, 24 bits is the reasonable limit of current technology, or at least affordable technology.

The fact of the matter is, "affordable" stops a bit short of 96dB SNR, which is what you can get at 16 bit (technically 6.02 times number of bits plus 1.761, if the signal is a true sinus of 100% amplitude, which doesn't make much sense for a recorded sound. Give it recorded music with enough headroom not to go into clipping and this drops significantly). "Reasonable limit" stops somewhere around 114dB SNR, at the broadcast standard of ±15V audio levels. That's about 19 bit. In broadcasting you use either 20 or 24 bit, depending on (at least sort of, in a simplified view) whether it's going into a mixer or going out to a consumer.

Add a volume control to your amplifier and you're already FAR below the 16 bit quantization noise SNR.

If you look at an amplifiers specification you'll most likely see both dynamic range and THD+N. THD+N of 0.1% means 60dB SINAD, which is the signal-to-noise-and-distortion. effective number of bits (ENOB) here is then (tada): 10 bits. That 8-bit output is starting to look pretty reasonable again, isn't it?

@NutsAboutAmiga

Yes I did.
Revisted this over the weekend after I had the volume problem with a PCIEx1 CMI8738-lx on my Sam460ex. Also transferd my AHi.prefs from a working PCIEx1 Envy24HT on the Sam460ex to the Sam440ep-Flex.Also tried the card in the PCI slot on the Sam460ex.And checked the card on a Windows 7 machine to make sure that it was working.
