@wawa

Permedia2 is maybe old, thats correct but it is a widely used piece of hardware on BPPC and CSPPC, i doubt the 060 still is under OS4.

i said better 3D system for 68K not improve, anyone can try and make OS3.X Mesa drivers or Rave 3D drivers and make a wrapper ?

68k amigas are sure even today much more popular than ppc, but who cares? in fact what only counts, that karlos has had this on his wish list and took the opportunity, volunteering.

no it isnt so simple, since the documentation is not openly available. it would be possible via reverse engineering, ive been told. it has taken place to certain extent to fix bugs in voodoo warp3d libraries. but the task was to big without any support.

The bug is probably in the R200 driver, there are other bugs in there, some of which I've fixed (W3D_DrawTriStripV() for example, rendered fans instead, likewise support for byte-based V4 vertex colour formats).

Good, this fix will coming on the Update 3 ?

You shouldn't compare Warp3D on OS4 to the emulation on MorphOS when trying to identify where a problem lies. They work very differently. In MorphOS, Warp3D is an emulation layer wrapped around an already complete 3D subsystem. That emulation layer can contain all the odd workarounds and bugfix logic it needs without any new "fixes" causing problems for the 3D subsystem itself. In future, Warp3D itself will doubtless be a wrapper around a more complete 3D system too, at which point direct comparisons will be more useful/

Ok this explain all, maybe this sort of "sandbox" in the 3D system has to be done before, aniway we can't go back with a time machine ... i presume that this can be valid also for an eventual future support of the other PowerUP apps (that doesn't work at all yet under OS4)

For several reasons I'd rather get drivers closer to the API expectation first then worry about dealing with older titles that have issues. As it happens, I spent quite a lot of effort trying to get the exhaust trails in WO2097 to render properly - only to discover that it is impossible without breaking the rendering in other WarpOS/Warp3D titles. I got it working in the end, although you may have to set different ENV vars for different titles.

Of course surely this can't be an elegant solution for end users.

Did you talk about your plans/ideas with the actual 3D mantainers ?
Maybe you may work side by side with them when they start to plan the new 3D infrastructure so we can be sure that all things can be done "correctly" in future updates.

I have great confidence on you !

Seems good as graphic (no glitch or similar) altrough from the video you post i note certain slowdowns, audio CD tracks doesn't work yet right ?

Those particular bug fixes should be, they were submitted already. The shadow bugs and stuff haven't been worked on yet. Not by me at least.

Well, it isn't that bad actually. The way I implemented this was in a manner similar to "profiles" common to PC graphics card drivers. So, you don't have to change ENV vars each time you want to run something, you just create subdirectories in ENVARC:Warp3D/Permedia2 for each executable you want to override the main settings for.

The future is definitely in a new 3D subsystem - most of the issues could be mitigated by simply wrapping a working OpenGL implementation. Fixing bugs in Warp3D itself is only an interim measure.

Depends on your system, I guess. The video itself isn't recorded at the highest frame rate and windowed mode is also slower than fullscreen since there's a ClipBlit() for every frame. For the settings in use, this is actually faster than it is for me on WarpOS, despite the overhead of emulating bits of 68K stuff (remember, WarpOS applications still make 68K system calls that have to be emulated even if they do trampoline right back into native OS calls). Also, this was the debug build of the driver which is a little slower than the release version due to extra stuff going on that you can't see.

Regarding the audio, you'd not be able to tell anyway in the video as I didn't record any sound. However, there's no chance CD audio works here as I don't have any optical media in my A1200 at all. Whenever I need to use some obsolete storage media like that, I just mount it over the LAN :)

Yep, i know that video was maded without audio, i meant if there any chance (if you know) to support it or if the music are already supported but don't work for any reason.

Aniway i just restart your video and see what config you use on your machine, so i decide to set the same prefs on my Sam Flex and i get a bad ISI crash instantanely. (see log below)

This is a bit strange because using different configs i get different behaviour, sometimes DSI, sometimes ISI crash and after a while always unrecoverable freezes

Of course I also plane to open a new thread here about all issue/crash into the WarpOS games, so eventually you or other interested developers can take a look at them easily and bring it as reference for future fix

Yep, i know that video was maded without audio, i meant if there any chance (if you know) to support it or if the music are already supported but don't work for any reason.

This problem lies within cdplayer.library... It uses the SCSI command "PLAY AUDIO TRACK INDEX" for playing audio tracks, which isn't supported anymore by most ATAPI drives. I made a patch for cdplayer.library to use "READ TOC" and "PLAY AUDIO MSF" instead, but I'm waiting for permission from Patrick Hess (the original author) before releasing the altered library.

@HammerD

I love blogs too, but enough PR of classic version, give us some interesting techical info. as Karlos do (about update3. about new features in it, about fixed there and there, about how fast usb2.0 , etc) :) Its supposed to be development blog, not PR blog :) Also as betatesters use new shell for last years, maybe you can write post about for blog (if tonyw can't by any reassons) ? Will be pretty interesting to read as well.

another blah-blah blog item. wonder why cant they post anything essential or at least interresting like karlos, instead of this poor marketing. sneak peak at incoming advertisement. what magazine is it supposed to appear except of amiga future.

@number6

Thanks Number6 for this update of a REAL and AVAILABLE AmigaOS.
It is a shame that people cant say thanks for what is here, rather than complain about what is coming...

@ddni

and we have reached the days when independent reviews of a shipping product are not of use to some complainers.
Sad.

Who's documentation?

edit: anyway not that i care so much. looks like i have moved over to aros after all.

Perhaps you should contact the IP holders and see what they are willing to do
for classic owners. But, then again since you have chosen to go with AROS, which
runs on 68k, ............... why put down people that are not working on 68k....
......I'm confused, you got me. Other than bashing a small company,,,what's
your point?

Do you still believe Hyperion should Open Source Ainc's IP?
Or,
Give away what they have worked on for some years as a company thru all kinds
of legal hassles and uncertain times?

Maybe you should be barking at Ainc, I'm sure they will listen, they always have
in the past.

Port OS4 back to 68k, write technical articles to your liking, get X1000 out the
door, show up here for their daily kick in the teeth,...........sounds like a fun
schedule you have them on. Well, idle hands and all that rot, I understand.

---------------------------------------------------------------
What will you be running AROS on?

There's more to read if you follow the general link:
http://blog.hyperion-entertainment.biz

Sure, some entries have more content and some not quite so much.
I just link to it when there is a new entry and put it in this appropriately titled thread, where interested people can find it all in one place.

btw-neither Darren nor Steve is charged with the duty of "marketing". People asked to hear more from the developers, so they instituted the blog for that purpose. Perhaps when more developers contribute, you'll be more satisfied with the content.

Fair enough...I'll take a back seat for awhile...

How about an update on your two interesting projects, MUI-OWB and MUI-MPlayer?

i thank all involved for the announcement of upcomming advertisement of os4 classic in an amiga magazine, even though its readers are sure all anyway aware of existence of this product. of course i understand very well it wouldnt pay to advertise elsewhere.
