It's only because the weather is so bad no one can get out in the garden or participate in outdoor activities. Nought else to do but hover by the fire, rehash and navel gaze.

Bingo.... somebody finally hit the nail on the head at last...

Yup, the bad weather has stretched on quite a bit this year, happily though the very last of the snow in me garden is almost gone (should be totally gone by around lunchtime I hope, as that big ball of fire is actually back in the sky again)...

So it's that time of year once again when it's finally safe to toddle outside without wrapping up like an eskimo. Only thing that'll be getting done in the garden though is the annual squirrel stocktake and lobbing dead cats back over the fence into the woods or neighbours garden if they aint looking ...

No a big fan though of outdoor activities except walking. I enjoy good long walks mainly by the side of busy main roads where I can pause every hundred yards or so and shake my fist at passing motorists for nor reason other than to see the baffled look on their faces...

Think it'd be a bit dangerous hovering by the fire in my house, mainly cos if there were a fire in my house then I hope I'd have the sense to call the fire brigade as I only have central heating, so there would be something drastically wrong if there was a fire...

Can't say navel gazing is a particular habit of mine, I'm more of a nose picker and bogey starer meself...

Not keen on pubs these days as I don't drink alcohol anymore and it's really quite a strange feeling siting there sober as everybody around you gradually get more and more incoherent and they all start arguing over things that happened 20 or 30 odd years ago that they only seem to recall when their drunk... worse though is after they finish arguing and "make up" watching guys hug each other and saying all that "I love you like a brother" stuff is a wee bit unnerving when yer sober, so pubs these days are only for me a rare place to visit or I leave pretty early before anyones had more than 3 pints...

Hmmm... taken me so long to type this post maybe that last bit of snow has gone now... if I don't post for the rest of the day then the snow is gone and I'm off into the wild blue yonder (well either the back garden lobbing cats or standing by a busy roadside waiting for the unsuspecting to pass)...

Oh yeah... back on topic...

Ant's... they're still vicious little buggers who only co-operate with other ants from theirs own camp so to speak, so it's hardly a good subject to use to try an promote unity between all the different Amiga camps...

I do agree though this Evert fella isn't like your usual humourless, hissy fit typical company owner/ boss we've come to expect here in Amigaland (Trevor D aint included in that description as I can't say I've ever noticed him moaning or storming off in a huff about anything, quite the opposite in fact) but heres the thing as Evert aint actually part of anything Amiga anymore then I'm curious to know why and for what, appears to be his sudden and quite vocal interest in the Amiga scene once again...

I'm sure Evert is appreciating the accuracy of his analogy as the anthill continues fighting over interpretation, whilst he walks away into the big uber-world of Linux consultancy, dealing with real businesses with real needs, working to deadlines of a few weeks, etc.

@Jorit2

Have you established a new business venture yourself, or just freelance-consulting? Hope all is going well, I'd imagine it's like going from steel boots to dancing shoes after so long working as part of a contractually-hobbled business (as you described).

Maybe you're just reading too much into this.
He posted as any other user would. Here's a recap:

Quote:
I just wanted to make a retrospective comment about the fighting

So, that's why he posted.

Quote:
And by then this has turned into a discussion about cooperation

Now he sees a change in the thread, but stays to view more responses, right?

Then someone asks for clarification, if possible, about a former statement concerning why he left...which he willingly offers.

Considering the length of some of his posts, more questions were sure to follow, and they did. Again, he willingly responds.

Then the thread change on a dime to nothing but challenges to his identity.

After repeated (many) attempts to convince, he stops.

The rest of the thread asks nothing more of him and goes into off-topicville extraordinare.

I don't see how this equates to "sudden and quite vocal interest in the Amiga scene once again".

Well, based on his comment;

It looks more like a general comment regarding how threads around here seems to go off on a tangent and spiral out of control.

"Around here"? No, not just around here, welcome to ANY Forum, on ANY subject anywhere on the Internet.
Those quilting and gardening and expat Brit forum threads can get right off topic and completely out of control. It's a jungle out there, a JUNGLE, I tells ya.

Weather (in western/central europe at least) betters now. Actually I spend the noon with gardening today and cared about my tomatoes, peppers, salads and flowers and indeed spreaded first flower seeds directly outside in anticipation of mild and rather wet weather next days that will facilitate germing.

@kindergip

Can you point the hate words you said were in this thread?. I don't see any.

You need to take a moment and think before you take things out of context which considering the length of your membership here should be very deep.

The thread made mention of redacted material that was preserved on the Moo. If only to attempt due diligence I travelled there to read it. Having made an effort and having read the whole thread I made this comment:

"No amount of emotionally charged argument, empty hyperbolic ranting or fallacious rhetoric is going to change that fact, talking heads, sock puppets, deranged haters, multiple personalities, proxy fakes, and pseudo anonymous personalities notwithstanding."

and that was in reference to:

"I've made my views known over time and no longer feel a need to repeat them or even argue for them. The Amiga and AmigaOS are still alive. No amount of verbiage will change that fact. I've been using Amigas since the A1000 and now have an X1000 sitting on my desk. It's sitting there because someone believed and made it happen despite long odds, minuscule resources, and an ongoing antonymous schadenfreude festering in the 'community'."

which is a summation of my experience and observations over many many years hence my beginning lines:

"Wow, once again on a Sunday morning I get sucked into reading a thread full of drama and angst. I promised myself I wouldn't do this any more but occasionally I lapse, and I pay the price with a loss of time, that will never be recovered, all due to recidivist proclivities left over from years of .advocacy."

So back to your question:

"Can you point the hate words you said were in this thread?"

Can you in fact point to where I said there were "hate words"?

Which would possibly be why,

"I don't see any."

And you've answered your own question. There weren't any observed or noted by me, the comments were about the 'community' which in my very broad definition is 'all things Amiga' and how nothing much has changed and how I failed to not read and comment once again.

Well, I have actually seen forums that more or less where on topic.

Used to moderate/admin an active albeit private forum back in the day, tho i guess a rather heavyhanded approach discouraged threads from going viral.

It's a completely natural thing for humans to follow discussions where ever they go. It's in our nature. Perhaps it's even the key to our intelligence?

I'm jealous. My garden is waiting my attention. It's still too cold to plant anything (and I don't have cold frames or a poly-tunnel) as we've had frost most mornings. Today we've had hail, rain, wind and now scattered sunshine. No, wait... showers again. Uh... hmmmm... I'll get back to you on that.
