By the looks of it it would make for a pleasant replacement for my defunct Micro. And I see a MicroSD receptical, probably for UBoot. My enthousiasm is rising again after 2 years of decline. Oh, and to hell with all the negativity spouted in this thread: this is lifting spirits again!
Wait, I have one serious point of concern: it lacks a frozen-yoghurt-device. Thank heavens I don't like frozen yoghurt.
And HERE you find a clue to the origin of the name of 'Tabor' chosen. My 2 cents.

Well, then they could make a multi core motherboard when the OS supports SMP :P _________________

It is more like buy one core and get second core for free kind of affair. There is a single core version but (AFAIK) it is not faster than dual core.
And numbers sell. People applaud for more cores even when they are not able to use it.

Nah, but how about someone actually making HW that can compete with 10 year old stuff..... Oh, wait..... |
I'll get my peg2 set up, and I'm likely to get an x5000. Not sure then tabor will be buyable, so not sure when I could compare that in benchmarks to your peg2 baseline. Also have x1000, xe and t4240 dev kit.
What is your recommended comparison method? Perhaps we can get x5000 and tabor beta people to run the same, and get a better idea where such an early tabor thing fits..._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

AmigaOne systems would not be getting multicore anytime in next 3 years, Hyperion are too busy porting to A-EONs new systems.
The developer cycle never ends, port port port - so nothing substantially new ever gets developed.
With 1000 parts per motherboard, which all costs money and time increases the costs, rather than trying to move to VLSI & DSP driven computers.
Amiga brass need a HARDWARE systems Engineer with higher calibre to implement more advanced systems whilst also looking around for chip / part replacements lowering costs and maintain functionality.
We need follow RULES eg no CPU more than 100-150 USD, Bill of materials per motherboard no more than an extra 100 USD.
Personally I think an ARM + GFX core + FPGA should be on all new NG2 systems.
All you need is hire one hardware engineer part time to create new designs.

I think the hardware is a prerequisite to dev and test smp in the os... so my schedule wizardry would put hardware first..._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

How you know it's a P1022 ?
And only 1 PCIe 1x, it' not good.

I'd say...
We really need an Amiga system what even cheap sub $100 PC motherboards have... expansion options. Like 4+ Sata III ports, several PCI-e slots, and 32+ Gigs off DDR3 memory.
I know Amiga OS4 may have issues supporting this hardware but it's best to have capable hardware and let the OS grow into it. Versus buying a very expensive platform that is using old outdated tech or expansion limited options.
In short, The Amiga OS is an awesome operating system, it needs truly awesome hardware worth the price tag.

A-Eon itself non-directly admited this by Linux SPE presentation. And there are of course other clues.

It is PCIe x4 with x16 mechanical connector - same as on SAM460. |

If I heard Cloanto´s presentation correctly, their next goal is improved PowerPC emulation (64 bit CPU emulation, PCI etc.). That could be entry level for AmigaOS 4.x. |

CPUs or SOCs with a single core a pretty sparse today. That's the reason why the boads have several cores. The available chips just have them._________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

| Hi All,
The Tabor board doesn't have a classic FPU with dedicated FPRs found on most other PowerPC systems. It is replaced with a set of SPE instructions which perform floating-point operations on the integer registers. Important: The SPE unit can execute floating-point operations very fast. We have tested a lot of programs with FPU operations this year. Tabor sound, 3D acceleration, and network work without any problems on Debian PowerPCSPE. I'm very surprised about the performance of this board. Note: It is also possible to install a normal PowerPC distribution of Linux on this board. The missing FPU instructions are emulated for PowerPC programs by the Linux kernel.
Cheers,
Christian

As I wrote, WinUAE/OS4 is in the same situation (no FPU) and this really is not unbearable hurdle. Sure lame is slooooow and Quake (software rendering) runs only in low resolution, but all other main tasks are more than fluid (internet browsing, emulation etc.). So no reason to exaggerate. |
I think your hint to WinUAE OS4 is quite good one - should give quite an assumption for the speed penalty of no FPU. As I haven't used it myself (lack of powerful x64 hw) I appreciate your reports about WinUAEPPC.
All in all no compatible FPU seems to be quite a disadvantage but also no fatal show stopper. Anyway a T104x would have been much, much nicer._________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Somebody who's willing to buy another copy of an OS that hasn't seen any real updates in seven years is probably not the type of person who worries about FPU speeds, so "no fatal show stopper" is probably spot on.
The more important question, that nobody seems to ask: Was there an X5000 running OS4 on display?
