From the MorphOS development team:

"The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the immediate availability of MorphOS 3.11. In addition to performance, stability and security improvements, this new version also features the first more substantial update of the Odyssey web browser in a while, which improves the rendering of and general compatibility with modern websites in several ways, as well as a more refined version of the recently introduced Flow Studio, our official integrated development environment. For a more extensive overview of the changes included in MorphOS 3.11, please read our release notes.

We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 3.11 is available for download in our files section."

@Zylesea

I have never played with MorphOS and I really want to. If I don't have a mac of any kind, is there any way to emulate or something?

@all

Thanks for the work put in for MorphOS 3.11 release.

I took a brief look at it today, installing it on my powerbook g4 17" on my blog - link below:

https://amigax1000.blogspot.com/2018/07/morphos-311-released.html

It follows on from my recent two part blog entries covering the installation of MorphOS 3.10 from scratch which are linked in the article above if you want to read more!

Hope you enjoy it.

Epsilon

To enjoy MorphOS is better running on one real computer the good is that PPC machines like Macs is very easy find them for few money the second hand even with good luck a Mac new from any shop forget it in some shelf.

@Epsilon

Just do not place any files in "sys:morphos". This is a protected folder and should not be touched by users. Fortunately, you do not have to place your personal wallpapers inside the same directory where the built-in ones are stored. Just point Ambient to the copy on your "Work:" disk and you will have no issues when you update to MorphOS 3.12 in the future.

@Templario

Sadly no update to the graphics card situation on the X5000 either in this latest release so it means I (and a large proportion of others) can't use the graphics card that came with the machine which is a bit of a shame
I have taken the liberty of getting a Mac Mini G4 cheaply off Ebay to give it a trial run until the X5000 is supported with my graphics card. I am aware that I will need to set things up and do tweaks etc but i thought I'd share some initial thoughts from a few hours play. Bear in mind I am someone who has never used MorphOS before and has only been used to AmigaOS, but the stock installation does feel a tad too blue and MacOS like and that the icons and menus in 1920x1080 resolution appear smaller compared to the same display on AmigaOS. A lot of things feel the same but visually it feels like a parallel universe.

Other annoyances from the Mac Mini G4 are that you are limited to the two on-board USB ports, so sadly will need to plug in a USB hub for keyboard, mouse and joypads. I also had to get used to finding the eject CD button which of course is menu based on MorphOS.

However good points: nice to see that the version of Odyssey supplied is version 1.25 and also that is supports the in built WiFi. Even with 512MB and 80GB hard drive the system seems quite responsive so would be really interesting to have this running on the X5000 and the extra memory and processor speed once my graphics card is finally supported.

Overall first impressions are quite positive and hope the Radeon SI cards are supported soon.

You can switch between several predefined themes. If you open the MUI preferences window, just click on the "Settings" button in the upper left corner and choose one of the six included predefined themes. (You can also use the same menu to save your own custom themes.)

In order to change the window decorations, open the System preferences window, choose "Screens" and pick a different window skin. There are several ones that do not include any blue color tones.

To increase the size of menus, you should consider increasing the font size in the System and MUI preferences.

@outrun1978

You can always spare some USB ports by using a USB-hub enabled keyboard. I'm not referring specifically to the Apple model A1048 or A1243, but they both have additional 2 USB ports and the eject button (that works just fine with MorphOS).

Of course the keyboard-hub will not have enough juice to power an external HDD, but for a mouse, or a flash drive it should be enough.

@recedent

Thanks for the useful tip but am using a Ducky Zero DK-2108 which i quite like the feel of so I guess it will have to be fed off a USB hub.

Rather 3.12 or so.

I hope the next MorphOS release will include Odyssey powered with JIT for JS.

But you can always do this if you like: How to Make MorphOS Look Like OS4 ;)

I've so used to have monitors with built-in USB hubs, that I won't ever buy a new monitor without it. It's a perfect solution for a Mac mini IMHO. USB ports are also better positioned that way than behind the machine.

It isn't that hard when you get used to that. There's Eject button in screenbar on every MUI screen, you can right click the CD icon and select Eject... or make pulldown menu entry, Panel button, keyboard shortcut, or anything else with the Eject shell command. I guess everyone can find a way that satisfies :)
