| Would it be relatively easy to make micro ATX and mini ITX versions of the X5000? Thanks. _________________ John 3:16 |

| @Trekiej Well.. When I saw the topic I was seeing/hoping for - 1.SAW 2.Popcorn 3.FAIL! But the Amiga gods spared us this one time.

An ITX version would require a whole new board to be designed. A Micro ATX version already exists but A-EON decided against production because the price would be pretty much the same as the ATX version and they felt customers making such a high priced purchase would prefer to have more card slots.

| @Rob Thanks, I did not know about that one. I was under the assumption that making a micro ATX and Mini ITX would require more than just removing extra components.

I could only imagine what you wanted to convert it into. A PowerMac X5000? An AmigaOne X8600? An X5000 monster laptop.

If I wanted to inquire about the ATX motherboard, who could I talk too? I guess A-eon.

I wonder how much the Micro-ATX board would cost with a socket instead of a soldered cpu.

The CPU is a BGA. The solder balls are part of the chip from the factory. How would you propose to make it socketable? _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

I guess it depends on how pins get soldered on to the cpu. Would a pcb need to be soldered on for a place for the pins?
edit:
I wonder if the mother board would have to go through a re-design for different pads or holes.

Yes, it would be easy if you had the layout source.
Maybe you would have to leave out the ill fated Xoro part of the board.
No, it won't be done
Any questions? |

"Just wanting to make one with a socket, possible to lower cost."
I think, no matter what, socket would make the price higher.
I think existing X5000 production need to be sold out before X5000lite would be made. And I think they need to get A1222 to shops first.
Then I imagine interest for a yet another micro size board need to be studied. X5000lite or A5000lite (no xena) should not cost much to do, as the design is anyway partly tested.
I vote to wait for PPClaptop to be finished first, https://www.powerpc-notebook.org/en/ + performance https://www.powerpc-notebook.org/2018/07/nxp-dev-board-t2080-e6500-with-debian-sid-ppc64-and-radeonhd/
then port AOS4 to e6500 core and deliver micro board that is grown from the laptop board.
Then we have AOS4.2 ready, right?, and we are ready for the 8 virtual cores... Last edited by KimmoK on 28-Sep-2018 at 10:43 AM. Last edited by KimmoK on 28-Sep-2018 at 10:41 AM.

Does noboady look at the linked image? A micro ATX version was made first and it has the Xmos chip and Xorro slot. Assuming that it has no bugs and runs OS4 fine it could go staight into production in once the current production has sold. If Steve Jones' A1500 plus case becomes a reality then it could make the case (no pun intended) for putting the ATX version into production.
I totally Agree that a CPU socket will just result it getting more expensive for no benefit. |

Okay, I will agree that it would cost more to do over all.
I am still wondering what it would cost to make the board with a socket minus the cpu.
Bringing the cost of the cpu down is possibly the most important part. Would a large initial investment bring the cpu cost down? I assume that the cpu has a minimal cost regardless of how many you buy. This is like Dollar per 1000. _________________ John 3:16 |
