| Someone posted regarding the 1280x1024 HDMI resolution. But this is to be an entry level system correct? It can be upgraded in respect to the video?
What I am curious about is the "A" designation in the name "A1222" while other A-EON projects have an "X designation such as "X5000". Why is this?
I had a bit of confusion until reading more posts. I thought the red "AAA" box shown on the a1222plus.com website was a picture of the A1222 system case! Does the a1222plus.com site hold a photograph of the actual system? I could not find one. Last edited by AmeegaGuy on 12-Jan-2020 at 05:40 PM.

Tabor has built in GFX (well, more or less plain frame-buffer), but anyone sane will use PCIe GFX card.
X = Xorro/XCore equiped motherboards (at least this was an explanation given earlier). |

I understand now about the "X" designation. Thank you! |

I find unlikely that an OS4 driver for the onboard video will even be written although it could have been useful for a second display for documentation. |

| @Rob I cant see anything bad about lowlevel GFX onboard. It can be useful for debugging for example. Sometimes issues with the GFX board pop up here and there. Maybe it could be a tool to bypass that.

The device driver for the on-chip graphics certainly exists and I demonstrated it at AmiWest last October.
The device is part of the P1022 CPU chip and is limited to 1280x1024 (although 1280x768 is a more common aspect ratio). The driver is part of the OS4 system, so it "just works", leaving the PCI-e port free for other devices. DVDs play on it as well as they do on the X5000 with a graphics card.
As someone said earlier, it is a framebuffer, but it works well and I need/use nothing else on my Tabor. It has the advantage of on-chip DMA, so it is also fast.

| "it is a framebuffer, but it works well and I need/use nothing else on my Tabor"
The display data is in normal RAM. Little bit like the display of unexpanded A500 (minus blitter etc). So, it is useful for 2D needs, at least.
I wonder if memory bus load (of the DIU output) can be detected when doing CPU benchmark?
(( It might be also fun for some low-level assembly coders, to max out what can be done with just the CPU w/o GPU help. Some insane developer could even build a GPU via SW running on the second core. )) _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

| I have contacted AmigaKit and they have confirmed that everyone pre ordering an AAA will get the chance to preorder an early bird A1222 at a discounted price, guaranteed.

That is interesting as they have already stated that they only have 100 of them available.
Unless they expect this to be a very poor response from the community and don't expect to even have 100 orders? Yet I Highly doubt that or they wouldn't manufacture the boards in the first place..
Some of this math does not add up... Guess we will just wait and see as usual..

i think they can have their early estimates judging by what the response have been so far and might want to improve upon it.

except if manufacturing can be covered by sales and at least help to recover development costs if not allow for actual profit anymore. |

I could probably get by on frame buffer graphics too, but not 1280x1024. I like that aspect ratio for programming, but you can't get those monitors anymore. It would have to be something like 1360x768.

Of course the AAA pack sales will be capped at 100, what were people thinking? That they're going to entice 200 interested Tabor buyers and then tell the unlucky 100, "Oh thank you for your money, now enjoy our legacy stuff & cheesy merchandise?" That would indeed be suicidal marketing.

| @Trixie Well yes, but then why specify this?
"The first hundred customers who purchase and register the new AAA package will be offered for a limited time option to purchase the forthcoming A1222 Plus motherboard at a special low introductory price."

Again how ironic/annoying/frustrating (delete as appropriate) must it be for you to miss out on something you have all been waiting for all this time simply because you have wasted time on a forum discussing semantics.
The mind boggles it truly does.

Good for you 😉. Fingers crossed the A1222 gives you the same joy the X5000 has given me. I was certainly quite impressed with it playing around on it at Amiga 34

Hopefully it will. X5000 is way beyond my budget which is why I waited for the A1222. _________________

As of today, five days after this whole thing went online, and four days after they 'fixed' it, a1222plus.com still says:

The first hundred customers who purchase and register the new AAA package will be offered [...]
|
and the product page in Amigakit's shop still says:
Quote:
can optionally request to be enrolled in the A1222 Plus Early Adopter programme (subject to availability [...])

Yeah, what were people thinking? It's almost as if they took A-EONkit's public statements at face value - silly bunch.
