So in next month, if we are lucky, will be presented a new low price uATX Power9 board. There will be some Linux distros ready for it, my hopes are also for an Amiga OS4 port.

@Fl@sh

A port would be very nice, but first I would like to see some single core Power 9 benchmarks against the X5000 cpu.

@Fl@sh

Sounds like they have received all components now. Guess I should order a case now.

@Fl@sh

What is there to do with that machine and aos4.1 that you can't do right now (any kind of way)?

@Fl@sh

According to Trevor in an Amiga Future article, the X1000 cost 20,000 Euros for an OS4 port, as a baseline. Would need to buy a few machines to fund the investment. But I think for a board like this it would be worth it. Worth the wait.

@Srtest

Easy. Buy an OS4 PowerPC board that has some decent power with a desktop class CPU. At a price that can in the least justify that power. No OS4 board meets these requirements and hasn't since Apple killed off desktop PowerPC. Even the X1000 was stifled and held back by Apple. There isn't any OS4 boards available today that have AltiVec.

@thread

here:

https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=power9-epyc-xeon&num=3

Seems quite fast...

According to benchmarks I fonud comparing AMD EPYC 7551 with Ruzen 5 1600 seems that Power 9 was quite the half on lame encoding or R5 1600 and 1/4 in FLAC...
Dont think any current AmigaOS4 capable cpus ca do something similar...

Everything will run a good deal faster and there's plenty of software that will benefit from the extra speed. There's also the likelihood of software being developed or ported that wouldn't be considered with the current hardware that's available.

Link broken, but if am correct the T2080 was the best, I have seen the benchmarks.
If Power 9 could be added that would be a could comparison :)

What benchmark are you using for comparison?

@billt

The other PPC's in the sheet, ...and add Power 9 :)

But how accurate is it ?

Fibinacci scales +~50% on Mac 2 core to 4 core,
but on AmigaOne X5000 from 2 to 4 cores it is goed +~2%

@bennymee

Hi benny.
The two core Pmac is 2 GHZ the Quad is 2.5 ghz. Plus the 970MP was different in many things compared the old 2Ghz . The Quad was much more modern machine.

you can check it here G5 dual 2 ghz

G5 Quad

About X5000 yes was one of the reason that make me left this machine the performances increase was really poor compared old powerpc and x1000 too expecially in Ram speed where X5000 is like a P4 2.4 ghz and in FPU where x5000/40 gave me not good performances compared the Quad.

the T2080 serie is a really modern cpu and you can see the performaces.
The SAM 460 now is slower than a pi3 .
Note this benchmark are on a single core and not in smp .

by the way Power9 is a monster compared the machines in my excel table...

@tlosm

According to Trevor's latest interview they are beta testing the 4 core X5000, maybe they cleaned up the flaws.

Aren't the benchmarks cpu dependid ? That is, the benchmarks running in the caches on the cp and not the main ram.
