Yes, the Amiga OS code base is apparently not very good, lots of complaints and lengthy essays about it.

@all

I have looked a bit at AROS and done some minor things with it and it is actually a nice code base, well structured and in good shape. I have not heard anyone that works on it complain about it either.

Once I got AROS running on my A3000 and the old Commodore network stack a month ago, I have not booted it back to Amiga OS since. (AROS still needs some work, but we are allowed to fix it.)

Given that there is interest in some improvements, 64-bit, SMP, x86 and ARM, it makes me wonder why you do not consider AROS instead? It is also free from the legal troubles, you can just leave it all that behind.

If you want something more secure, better and more modern, then there are plenty of choices around. As @wawa says, it is not Amiga anymore.

Oh, yes, AROS does not hold the Amiga trophy. Linux does not hold a Unix trophy either, it is also a reimplementation, but this does not seem to bother people at all.

Hopefully. If it ever gets beyond a few hundred users it might become a target. Once upon a time some Amiga company asked them to restrict access to the source code repository to registered users. I don't know if that's still the case or not.

Don't forget that AROS is "probably illegal", according to the wonderful people at Hyperion :)

Surely you refer to this:

And, of course, this:

I guess no one bothered to read cgutjahr either, where "him" refers to Evert:

I tried to get in touch with him once, to make an interview. I was told I could get said interview - but while it would be attributed to him, the answers wouldn't be written by him.

Don't make me explain this again, ok. heh.

I'm not complaining about that, and the list of different systems I am running is rather long. What I am saying, is that very few of those who often see themselves as "hardcore" amiga users, actually know what separates Amiga from other ("modern") operating systems, or if they know (verbatim), they often fail in grasping the consequences. And they keep bringing up the topics like modern web browser and office programs. For these people, I suspect an Amiga "desktop environment" integrated on top of a un*x core and user-land layer, would be just fine - as long as it is "official" Amiga. And to be honest, I would probably enjoy that too :)

Apparently this past isn't something he wanted listed under experience. Then again, perhaps it is an oversight.

@TRIPOS

Then again being majority shareholder has no direct relation to running a company really.

Read up on Belgian law. (evil grin)

@thread

Just to review since post #1 this thread:

Quote:
Hyperion is involved in a legal proceeding in the European Union that is expected to conclude toward the end of June 2019. The proceeding centers on whether Hyperion may continue as a legal entity in Belgium.

from court record "DATED this 18 day of June, 2019."

Since that time no filings have been made by Hyperion in either:
the contract case
or
the trademark case

We know for fact from prior court records that this issue mentioned above is critical in determining whether further legal paperwork can be filed by Hyperion against the Amiga parties.

For now we can say it is coincidental that no paperwork has been filed.
But a statement from the court as to the resolution of this issue would be helpful.

In addition please note the analysis of the document in dutch (post #1), indicates the action filed regaarding shares took place after the announcement of the court about finisihing in June:

@all
In post #31 I declared war against Hyperion and asked people to send me a P.M. for offsite discussion.

Do you have any idea how many replies I got?

One(1) !

But that One (1) reply was worth it, it wasn´t from your everyday anyone,
it was from a big player in the Amiga Community and the reply was
- "YES!"

@Mr_DBUG

When you look at what IComp has to offer though, much of it is rendered redundant by other products and offers. Curious what will happen with P96 though, hehe... more drama coming :)

Well at least that’s one thing we can be sure about, what will happen to Vampire project, what happen to all other projects once Clanto starts collecting fees, for the use of ROM and brand names.

There are also few competitor in emulation market that I'm sure Clanto wont get there claws into like "Classic WB", "AmiKit", and a number of others.

I'm sure he want to protect his assets. was it not sated somewhere that you had to protect your brand or else you risk losing it, and Clanto has invested a lot in brand names.

So it really time to bring out the popcorn.

Commonly used words like Workbench and (Spanish word) Amiga should not have been copyrighted in the first place. The people who own the copyrights are granted monopoly in market that is not what is was in 1994.

Well, the Vampire team already have a deal with Cloanto regarding the kickstart.

Cloanto has already been working with AmiKit (and others) for years, to ensure compatibility. I may be remember wrongly, but I think the first time I ever tried AmiKit, it was a a "feature" of AmigaForever.

The only ones that have deal with Hyperion regarding OS3, are IComp and "the OS 3.1.4 team". Worst case scenario would be that one would have to start "from scratch" on OS 3.1 again, but as this has already been done twice (at least) before... it is certainly doable :)

@ppcamiga1

Yes there is lot of attempts at "Acts damaging goodwill or reputation" of Hyperion.

https://www.esa.int/About_Us/Law_at_ESA/Intellectual_Property_Rights/Protection_against_unfair_competition

This can also end up as legal dispute, this some thing to look forward too as well..

more popcorn
