@dirkzwager

950 EUR is close to original price. I suggest waiting, if it sells. If not, price may be lower next time.

@dirkzwager

I bought an used mb 4 or 5 year ago when the 460 was still on the market and I paid it 300 or 350 euros I don't remember precisely, then I had to by the OS, the graphic card, the case drivers hd etc. In total I would say round 800 euros. For a complete system I think such value can be a top limit.

ciao

@dirkzwager

Right now you can't buy any Sam460 new, so expect price to be high.

@dirkzwager

I think you can have even more fun on your Mac PowerBook with MorphOS. It will run software much faster than both the SAM 460, and the Tabor A1222.

MorphOS3.12 should be out "soon", and you will have even more "fun".

What ever you decide to spend your money on is up to you of course. Unless things change, I think I am DONE giving any more money to Hyperion, including license fees for any AmigaOne hardware for AmigaOS4.

Edit: IMHO, MorphOS is just as much an Amiga, as any other PPC system, running any type of "Amiga-Like" OS. People who are hung up on insisting that only AmigaOS4 is the "REAL" Amiga NG, are (again IMHO) fanatic fools. MorphOS, AROS UAE, FPGA implementations like MiST, FPGA Arcade, Vampire, MiniMig, etc., and the original 68k based Commodore Amiga computers, are ALL just as much Amiga "TO ME", as AmigaOS4 running on new PPC hardware.

They are not often for sale at all anywhere. Seller's market, or wait until there is another one for sale and see what it goes for.

@dirkzwager

950e is fine if there are licenses included and a quality monitor, but the last 460ex on amibay went for less, around 700e.

950 euros for one sam460ex of second hand?
It is an armed assault besides this sam model hast't support for 3D graphics.
The best option MorphOS running on mac of second hand.

@Templario

i see that you have al so the powerbook g4 with 1.67 Mhz. ( i have that to )
Is that " faster " than the sam with os4?
You can compaire.
I now the most of the NG " amiga family " computers not for the speed is.
But i like too now.

Thanks

Yes the PowerBook or the MacMini are more fast than Sam440ep and 460ex but where you can see that the speed is playing videos, and some port games need a lot of cpu.
But in both cases is different because the PowePC mac are old manufacturing and the Sam less.
But for that price, I recommend you not to buy it, my Sam460ex has been assessed in 400 euros, and and I have used it little.

@dirkzwager

Cpu wise, the Mini and Powerbook are faster. But the Sam460ex can use RadeonHD cards which are far more advanced. I sold my Peg2 because of this to replace it by an AmigaOne 500 aka Sam460ex, which also has Sata.

I also have the Powerbook 1.67 and several Mini’s, they where cheap so there is money left for NG OS4 systems.

Yes the Sam460ex cans use the RadeonHD, but every two years there is to pay of new for other new drivers, and these sams haven't support for GL, you buy the OS plus the drivers. 150 euros of operative system?

@dirkzwager

The powerbook delivers quite the better overall performance. The G4 is fatser clocked, faster per clock and has Altivec. The graphics can be better on Sam460, but this impacts mostly games.

If you haven't replaced the hdd of the Powerbook with an SSD (get ide to mSATA adapter and an mSATA SSD) - do so. That will speed up the system significantly and render the advantage of a SATA controller close to void (the max transfer rate on SATA is still higher, but access times are more important and these are the same).

The Sam460 is a nice system though. A fair price for a complete Sam460 is IMHO about 650 (±50) EUR. If you have the spare cash and like to try out- make an offer. The seller may accept or deny. It's worth an attempt.

@Zylesea

Thank you a lot for the tip and advice.
I have stil the original Hd in my powerbook g4 17".
I dit now of the speed with Morph is real better with a ssd. you give me a correct advice.
The price of ssd is real cheap, and i think that i wil buy one.
Not that i have to complain about my system, Morph is real nice and speedy but faster is always better.
And if i want a real fast computer i use my mac with osX.

I tink that i take the risk and wait for the tabor.
I have still my Morphos 3.11 to use ( almost 3 years now ) and have buy just two books about Morphos from Adam Zalepa. ( Morphos vol 1 & 2 ) almost 1000 pages.
a lot of fun.

@Templario

Sometimes upgrades are free sometimes you have to pay for it, I think that is worth it and without Amiga systems selling in large volume’s that is the way to go.

There is OpenGL ES on OS4.
