This kind of passed me by, but Claude Schwartz has hacked the pi computer to be used as either a cpu or gpu card for the Amiga you can follow his work here

https://github.com/captain-amygdala/pistorm
And on Twitter @Claude1079

I think this is pretty neat. Im surprise the like of Amigakit / a-eon or some other Amiga company doesnít get behind A314 board and make a consumer friendly package, I think a lot of Amiga users might be interested, specially if they made one for the A600 and A1200 as well.

Itís not only cpu / gpu card it also looks like there working on making it a network card and it can also pass sound encoding to Paula which mean you can tell the pi to connect to things like Spotify and have it played via Amiga chips.

I do wonder if there would be a way to use this kind of system to emulate a slow ppc chips to get amigaos4 on the a500, would be pretty neat, or have a kind of rabbit hole feature for classic Amiga, that allows access the linux Os on pi, just some interesting thoughts. Read more here

@amigang

This is interesting. I always thought pi would be the perfect next step for the future of Amigaos. pi is continually being developed & refined, perfect for a kind of reference spec for development of the os.
It could also attract new users who are looking for an alternative OS for their pi/arm based machine.

The developers of a future Amigaos could target arm, then use this type of expansion to appeal to the classic users perhaps supporting A1200/A500/A600/zorro

A dedicated pi version for the low end of the market & people wanting to try out the latest version of Amigaos.

I don't know how possible, but also produce a custom arm based Amiga & see how far the platform can be pushed. with a low end & high end in machine spec.

In a perfect world the low end machine would be in a nice A600 type wedge case.

@amigang

On github there's an A600 section too! Looks like

Yes, it would be marvellous if one of the manufacturers got into this

@amigang

I think itís interesting hack, I almost love it. Virtualization, emulation, and integration, type of thing, really geeky and I can see the appeal, from technical point.

But its major advantage is also its disadvantage, it solves lot of issues for the user, but it also make imageable hard to see how AmigaOS and apps can improved, if all you do is run stuff on the Linux side, it basically turns your Amiga into a dumb terminal, if you emulate 680x0, you can most likely emulated a 680x0 with BlizzardPPC or something like that too, so I donít see way you canít run AmigaOS4 on it, but then again Iím not sure I full understand its design yet. The bigger question is if even low end PowerPC is something you really like to have, if you canít run programs and games that is coming out for AmigaOS4.x because it too limited.

Michael Schulz is working on it, and yes it will have the same byte ordering like the Amiga and a powerful JIT

You are underestimating number of Amiga users which doesn't give a flying F about OS4. Which is kinda proved when you look how much more Classic gets _ORIGINAL_ games and software.

On topic, Buffee looks REALLY sweet if they manage to pull it off. Shouldnt be too expensive either.

Here the sad truth that we all kind of know, the Amiga community is just too small to keep up with the main stream programs. I want to see the Amiga push forward largely so I can boot up my Amiga more often and do more work and play round on it, but letís face it Modern web site/apps, like Spotify are not designed with Amiga in mind. But if hacks / work around like this help get these programs so there useable from within the AmigaOS, well I just think thatís great, I wish rabbit hole could be made for AmigaOS4, even letís say it had to be hosted on a linux PPC OS, it would just open up that possibility of when I need / want to just open that one app thatís not on Amiga I can do it without turning to another computer. Yes I would love native Amiga apps that could do it all, but we have to be realistic in what we can do, itís kind of amazing what has been achieved, I mean 4K video is something I donít think any other PPC computer can do, so I am great full to the dev for pushing the platform forward I just feel, even if this just a massive cheating way of doing it, it at least offers feature that maybe Amiga/oS would never of gotten any other way.

Well maybe you should read original post, he ask about people opinions, including if PowerPC might be doable, no point being pissed at me for specking my mind.

However that not going to give a new GCC, not new libraries, and not new applications, I have noticing that people are reuploading old stuff to Aminet, things from 2017 like XAMOS, and other archives, the actual new content is dropping sadly, I like nothing better if there where more cooperation on open source projects.

Classic games that only depend on Amiga500, does not require improvements to the SDK, not does it promote new hardware in general, its stuck on 7Mhz, because that all the developers expect you to have.

I celebrate Vampire because try to improve on the original design. I see all development as productive even this one, if I think this project is maybe going in a different direction.

Anyway bigger problem that you competing accelerator cards, where different philosophies, and because of comical interests, they go off in different directions.
Some with 68060 can you can't buy, New motherboard that needs chipsets you canít obtain, some without MMU, and some where say to hell with let's emulate it. I donít have problem with that, because it your choice if you like to support it or not.

I can see this as a great Rabbit Hole / GPU for Classics. Good Video and App control right from your Classic Amiga. would be a nice step up with low cost and keep you from having to turn on that power hungry PC!

I think at some point it will become obvious this is the only viable option. (Except maybe the OS4 part.)

AmigaKit/A-EON is all about trademarks and BS these days, they only "get behind" hardware they can put their so called trademarks on and claim ownership over. So hobbyist Amiga hardware designers have become much more vary about what license they use on their hardware projects, to exactly avoid that these companies "get behind" their projects.

Which is the best you can ever hope for Amiga to be, in a modern context.
