Just received an email about project status, the goal of 14,000 euro was reached with a surprising final rush!

@Fl@sh

Hope they manage to get all the parts they need to build the three test boards soon. There are a few components they've had problems with sourcing.

Great news, Amiga related

Quote:
ACube Systems, our partner taking care of building the prototypes, has also purchased a PCI to MXM adapter. The adapter will allow us to test MXM cards before we have the prototype ready, as it will be used in conjunction with the motherboard “Sam460ex” made by ACube Systems. Tests will be performed under AmigaOS 4.1, a native PowerPC operating system.

PCI to MXM in Mediator and Sam460 maybe later ? ACube and Elbox?
Notebook with OS4.1, ACube?

@Comi

This is my guess about PCI-MXM adapter:

For a volume of 1000 units (Aeon niche market hardware volumes).

12500€/1000 = 12.5€ per unit

For a volume of 100,000 units (low end mass production volumes).

12500€/100000 = 0.125€ per unit

That's why we can't have cheap niche market Amiga hardware.

There is a new update about next steps with a call to volunteers with U-Boot or Linux (kernel) skills.

@Jose

12500 € is a lot of money.

If they do the certification on their own, they won't need that much money. If they give the hardware to an external company (notified body), then it will probably cost that much.

But you have to know: They don't have to give it to an external company. They can do the certification on their own.

@Birbo

12500€ is pocket change compared to how much it costs to get all needed gear and premises for doing certification work properly on things like laptop.
