Maybe not, but the proclivity to do foolhardy things in the commercial space would seem to have some reasonable correlation with a lack of professionalism. It's not about how hard any of it is.

Oh yeah, it would be awesome if I wasn't the only graphics driver developer for AmigaOS 4.x any more.

Hardware level programming is an increasingly rare skillset. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

True, but I wasn't a graphics driver developer when I started. I figured it out "on the job."

Unfortunately, the graphics DDK is locked away behind an NDA, which makes it hard to get started. I got access after writing a test program that opened a screen, which proved I was capable.

I think that just reinforces my sentiment on the matter. Personally I don't mind the kinds of challenges, but I'm no longer in a situation where I can afford the time and patience. What little time I do have to myself ends up on pointless pet projects.

Hopefully 2023 will finally bring military spec Amigas so Doommaster will finally be happy. I wonder if rust will be optional?

This is where i think AI can come into it,
https://www.science.org/content/article/ai-learns-write-computer-code-stunning-advance

I was amazed when I asked ChatGPT about Amiga command, and it kinda got it, not saying they all worked but its pretty powerful, who knows where this technology will lead in the next few years.

11,2 is "unofficially" supported nowadays. It means it isn't fully supported system, but it still works pretty nicely if you replace the gfx card and insert a network card. Some people think these are generally the fastest systems for MorphOS, because of the graphics speed (PCIe).

Thanks for letting me know. I was unaware.

The G5 already has an ATi gfx card, so I’ll chase down a supported network card and give it a go.

Yes, the global semiconductor shortage has affected the supply of Raspberry Pi systems. Not so fun for anyone looking to put a PiStorm into their Amiga.

Be careful with ChatGPT. It's not trained to write code, it's trained to output content that looks human generated. Code generated with it can be full of stuff that is wrong and/or it simply makes up. As long as it looks good, there's no requirement for it to be logically correct or even syntactically so. It's also not going to be able to generate code for things under NDA since there'll be nothing in it's model for hardware that doesn't have documentation and code samples in its training data.

Hopefully the future is bright for the Amiga in 2023 and beyond. Be thankful it sold millions of machines and keeps selling. The Apple Newton barley sold 200,000 units and is very dead today. That device had a lot of potential and was from a much larger company.

Hyperion nor A-EON have sadly proved themselves as trustworthy driving forces showing an appropriate level of corporate vision and professionalism.

Trustworthy? As in dishonest ?

A-EON does not own OS4 so it is not responsible for "corporate vision" for the plaform. A-EON has had to step in and adopt an additional task of software development in addition to hardware. This has been necessary for customers because OS4 failed to keep up with the hardware advancements of the X1000 and X5000. All this has been conducted in very difficult circumstances for A-EON. Lest we not forget: over the key years Hyperion has been marked as bankrupt by Belgium authorities, engaged in seemingly endless legal process and lost it's management.

All of these events are out of A-EONs control. Despite this progress has been made by A-EON through the Amiga Developer Team over the last 6 years:

- Warp3D Nova
- RadeonHD versions 1, 2, 3, 5
- RadeonRX versions 1 and 2
- Enhancer Software - 7 major releases
- PPaint PPC
- Video Acceleration Lib
- NovaBridge
- DvPlayer

Huge sums of development money and the projects have not yet broke even. How much investment has been made in OS4 by Hyperion in this time ? Where are the licence fees going ?

A-EON has determinedly worked over the last six years to deliver the system software needed to supports it's hardware platforms.

Oh Matthew, you know me - of course I didn't mean "dishonest". Trustworthy as in, "providing a clear, focused, well-communicated vision for AmigaOS and its users". And that's something I miss from both Hyperion and A-EON, yes.

My Newton MP2000s are alive and well, thank you very much!
(And the Newton community is alive too, just not so vocal and… ehm… “nutty”)

True, but it takes at most a minute to ask ChatGPT, cut and copy, check code. Handy if your stuck and if it works might of saved you hours, or it might give you a good idea of what to do.

Plus I know its unlikly at the moment to write drivers but AI is only advancing, give it a few years can see it only getting better at this stuff.
