| Recently I asked similar question about RPG games (thanks for your answers), now it is time to browse in another of my favorite genres: strategy games. What titles in that genre you like on your Amiga (broadly construed)?
My favorite games: Civilization (concepts, replayability) Populous 2 (punishing your enemy with earthquakes and volcanoes? Is there anything more rewarding?) SimCity 2000 (splendid visuals) UFO (strategy layer is OK, tactical layer superb) Lords of the Realm (nice graphics, castle building and of course you get crown at the end).
And yours? Last edited by pavlor on 04-Feb-2024 at 10:49 AM.

If I had to pick my top 2/3 personal strategy favs in diff categories they would be;
Turn Based: Civilization Colonization Lords of the Realm
Real Time: Dune II Napalm The Settlers K240
I also missed the RPG thread, so will have to check that out !
(Edited to add in The Settlers & K240, don't know why I forgot them!)

Does Syndicate count?
One of the few games I finished back in my Amiga heyday.

On the Amiga,
The Settlers (from Blue Byte). I have PC's semi-modern versions i.e. GOG's The Settlers 3, The Settlers 2: 10th Anniversary, and Steam's The Settlers: Heritage of Kings - History Edition. Widelands is an open-source Settlers 2 clone.
K240 (from Gremlin Graphics).
Battle Isle (from Blue Byte).
Mega-Lo-Mania (from Sensible Software).
--------------
SimCity 2000 on PC. I have SimCity 2000 on my COVID-19 lockdown era A1200. I have EA Games' The Sims 4 on PC. LOL
My current strategy game is "Surviving Mars" from PC's EPIC game store.
OpenBW is Starcraft Brood War open-source compatible. _________________ Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB Amiga 1200 (Rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32lite/RPi 4B 4GB/Emu68) Amiga 500 (Rev 6A, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 3a/Emu68) |

These are the games I've spent countless hours/days/weeks/months as two player games, and still do enjoy them :)
The Settlers Napalm Empire
Then of course some classics like Mega Lo Mania, Sim City, etc... can't remember all the names now. _________________ - The wiki based MorphOS Library - Your starting point for MorphOS - Software made by jPV^RNO |

| Spaceward Ho! 2.0 (the rare nigh unheard of Amiga port from Mac) Powermonger Tiny Troops I would list more, but most of the old Avalon Hill and SSI games I played were either board games or games on the C64. I didn't do much strategy games in the Amiga. Last edited by PhantomInterrogative on 11-Feb-2024 at 10:34 PM. Last edited by PhantomInterrogative on 07-Feb-2024 at 10:28 AM.

Why not, it is your choice. And Syndicate has at least some "strategic" layer between missions.
@All
Some (K 240, Spaceward Ho!) of these titles were unknown for me until now, time to try new games!
Does anybody plays "newer" strategy games on NG Amigas, eg. via emulators and replacement ports? I must admit I'm addicted to Master of Orion 2, which works well on Pegasos 2 in my possession. |

| The list so far is missing so many great Amiga strategy games. The ones I remember playing the most are Mechforce and Warlords. They are good games alone but great games with friends where these many multiplayer turn based games become great (both of these games support 4+ players). MULE on the C64 was another many turn based multiplayer game that I wish was remade with enhancements for the Amiga. Most multiplayer games are online today but it is not the same as a good old gaming party. Nintendo Wii had some elements of it and the Intellivision Amico tried to bring it back. The closest the Amiga came was the Guru board before C= killed innovation, and a few apparently forgotten gems.

I kinda liked Foundation.
My favourite Amiga strategy game today is probably that one by Cloanto. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

It's not especially a strategy game, but you only have to look at my avatar to know where I'd be on that issue.
I rediscovered it again (albeit the PC version in dosbox for those higher res mission screens). It was 100% bug for bug compatible, all the dubious strategies I'd developed playing the Amiga version still worked and GumbyCorp once again crushed all before it without losing a single agent (or cheating)._________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |
