AOS4 Install Problem / HD Mount

I posted this problem on another thread already, but I didn't have the A1 in front of me at that time...

- UBoot has been upgraded to v1.1.1
- I connected a 4GB HD I had in an A1200T (after trying a new 120GB Maxtor with no success).
- The HD is connected to IDE Device 0
- I connected a new CDRom Drive to IDE Device 2
- HD and CDRom are recognised by UBoot (IDE Info show them)

I boot from the CD and started the Install according to the manual. In MedialToolBox, I configured the partitions (HD0: 1GB / HD1: 2.5 / 512 MB Unpartitioned)

- I select Bootable and AutoMount for HD0: and just Automount for HD1:

- But after I reboot the HD Icons are not there. "c:info" do not show the HardDisk. "Format" Do not show it. PartitionWizard says that the HD Device is not mounted.

- I can mount the HardDisk using "Mounter" and then Format it and install AOS4 without any problem. But then when I reboot, the HD Icons are not there (and of course it can not boot from the HD and obtain the purple screen to insert a Bootable Media).

I read and re-read the manual (which I printed...), but I can not find anything I could have done wrong.

It looks like it just do not want to Automount the HardDisk !

Could it be a setting I am missing in UBoot ?

Thanks.

Jerry

@Toaks

In MediaToolBox in "Edit RDB/ReInstall...", I selected "Install/Read Config"/"OK Accept Changes"/"Save to Disk"/"Reboot", then Going back to "Edit RDB / ReInstall", I selected "Install AmigaOne Booter" and select "AmigaOS4_CD:slb_v2" (Length: 28208). "OK/Accept Changes" - "Save To Disk" and Reboot.

When Defining the Partitions, I selected "Standard File System" / "FastFileSystem" / "LongFileNames", BlockSize=2048 and Buffers=500 (In Expert Mode, all lights are Green), and it "become" - DOS\07.

"Add/Remove/Edit FileSystems" is empty.

@Jerryuk007

Why the 120GB doesn't work? What is the problem?

I had exactly the same problem, so I decided to try with another smaller Hard Disk which I know worked (as coming from a working A1200T). But in fact I did not have any luck...

Once it's working it will be mainly for the OS and some "Vital" Apps, and the 120GB, will be shared between Serious Work, Temp/Test, other Apps, Games, Developments, (So maybe 4 or 5 partitions...) But I need first AOS4 installed and working correctly...

Please, does anyone has any ideas ?

Should I put the HD and the CDRom on the same IDE Connector ?
Is there anything in the UBoot who may need to be changed ?

Please try if the partitions are mounted when booting from the pre-release CD (not the update1 CD, and it has to be a cold boot, the kickstart modules have to be loaded from the CD). If that works there is probably a PC MBR on the HD which has to be removed (current versions of diskboot.kmod ignore such HDs, the one from the pre-release CD didn't yet).

@joerg

I bought the A1XE from a BetaTester and received 3 CD:
1 AOSBeta+Update
1 Debian GNU/Linux
1 with just A1XE Install

I just found some more info...
In UBoot I set boot1=IDE / boot2=IDE / boot3=cdrom (I know I just have one Hard Disk.
I put the A1XE Install CD IN this time.
At the end of all messages I have:

No config files found in any supported media/device!
No configuration files found in any partitions.

The 4GB HardDisk I am currently using came from a working A1200T (I never installed it in a PC).

[Edit] --- OH NO ! above the error messages, it said something about a Bad ELF image... When I typed "diskboot", it said "Bad Magic Number". When I then reboot it (I tried warm reboot, then Cold reboot), it got worse !
Now the monitor go in Standby and stay in Standby, it doesn't display anything anymore...
It just doesn't matter which CD I put IN !!!!
[/Edit]

@Jerryuk007

I suggest to use the 120GB new HD. Make it master, and cd as slave.

Enter uboot, reset to factory default, then follow the installation guide.

Do you follow every step in the installtion guide regarding Media tool Box? Do you install the a1 boot loader?

I just reconnected the 120GB Maxtor HD, but the monitor remains in Standby... So I can not access anything. What ever was on this CD, could it have fried something ?

@Jerryuk007

i have had the same problem and i have no explanation how i fixed it but what joerg said is probably correct.

try this..

remove the drive info in MTB (ALL) and start from scratch , install the drive (from the mtb menu , then the slb) , reboot after u saved..

go into mtb again and set up partisions , address the whole drive from first sector to the last one (in ie..3 partisions) , set it up with filesystems and minimalistic block size etc.

save and reboot

does it pop up then? ...if so... then try and set it up as you wanted it.

i did something like this.... sadly i have no real explanation.

@Toaks

For the moment, the system doesn't boot anymore, not even UBoot ! The monitoe stays in Standby... Did anyone ever had this problem ? How can I fix it ? I hope I don't have to buy a new system (I just had this one for less than a week...)

@Jerryuk007

unplug all pci cards (make sure POWER on the PSU is OFF) .

and have it off for a few minutes and turn it on with all pci cards not connected.

any change then?

As always when you work with computers, don't forget to ground yourself to get rid of any static electricity.

1 I would re-seat the graphics card and try again.
2 If that does not help, I would get another battery and try with that one.

If that fails, I would contact your closest dealer and have them take a look at it.

@Toaks and GuruMeditation,

I tried to have just the Graphic Card plugged, but no luck, the screen stays black !
(All IDE are still not connected).

>Another battery<
Can I use a battery from an A1200 ?

Being in UK, I guess the only dealers would be StellarDreams or maybe Eyetech...

@Toaks

I tried, first having just the Motherboard and the RAM connected. Then I reconnected the GFX, and no changes !
It looks like something may have fried... Could it be ? And how a CD could do that... Or could the CD flashed the ROM or something ?

@Jerryuk007

OK follow these steps... but if your A1 burn, it is not my fault

Turn off all, also the psu. Open the case, locate the battery. Remove it, insert it wrong (the other side). Wait 10 seconds. Remove it, insert it right thi time. Close and turn on all again.
