LOL Brother! Looks like another 5 day download at 28.8k! Unless, we get an Optus disk, and download at 56k... meaning, noone would be able to phone us and say "Merry Christmas" from Greece! w00t w00t!

BTW thanks Fleecy for your responses.

Customer expectations.

Personally, I like the fact Fleecy acknowledged the importance of the Amiga user groups. It's a worldwide network of eager PR workers ready to go. I hope we'll see some specials for user groups like free posters, t-shirts and the like.

The December release should be interesting. If Alan's mention of an April release for the mini-ITX boards was accurate and not just a throw away comment, AmigaOS has to be very close to completion. Here's my reasoning: Hyperion will probably need about a month to get a few thousand copies of OS 4 pressed, boxed and delivered to all the retailers worldwide (at least 1000 for the earlybirds, plus however many they guess they need, to bundle with the new boards). That means that OS4 must go gold before the end of March, which in turn means they need to be feature-complete by January, so they can have 2-3 months of solid testing by their beta testers (any less than that and they risk really dumb bugs showing up in their 1.0 release). So it really looks like in this case, "pre-release" means "what you'll get in the final, boxed version, except for the bugs we find and fix by then"

Of course, all that hinges on the accuracy of Alan's April release date. I really wish he would release the final specs and a price estimate for the mini-ITX...

I wish they (Hyperion/AmigaInc) were a bit more specific about that prerelease version. It may sell a couple of AmigaOnes more.

Some questions:
- what is the difference between prerelease and beta. Considering that OS4 is still alpha now, it can not be more than beta in a month time. So it will indeed be a beta? Just juggling with words?

- how final will it be. It is targetted at betatesters? Or will it be usable as a system for normal users? Will it have a decent graphics system, JIT, ...? Will it be enjoyable for normal users (not betatesters).

- Why did they change their mind. Hyperion always adopted the 'we will not release anything until completely finished' but now it seems that they will release a very early beta version?

Yeah.. what a waste.

Not very exiting this time some uninteresting questions.

Stuff like Matrox partnerships are very unimportant right now . More interesting is the situation at Amiga and future of AA/DE.

Anyone having trouble exchanging e-mails with Amiga Inc?

I tried a couple of times to contact fleecy, but no response. I am not sure if it's an e-mail issue or something else all together.

I am wanting to continue to discuss content for Amiga DE development and delpoyment.

Hmm...I might have to take my toys (content) and go to another playground? -heh

Any suggestions?

Yeah. I had problems as well contacting Fleecy. It seems his spam-filter is throwing out a bit too much of the real email he gets sometimes. But since he gets thousands of spam-mails and virusses sent to his account EACH DAY, it's nearly impossible to work without those filters. Some people really seem to enjoy registering Amiga inc. employees on spam-lists etc.... Very mature

EDIT: Added a bit more text:

Retry it or PM me your email-address and I'll try and tell Fleecy about the issue, since I'm currently in an email-exchange with him anyhow.

Onno

The beta/pre-release/preview/preliminary/whatever release is meant for earlybird AmigaOne owners only. Earlybird owners such as myself have come to expect a certain level of inconvenience. That was part of the deal from the beginning. Now that we have the option to gain access to an early release of AmigaOS 4.0, I don't care what they call it as long as they don't call it finished (because it isn't). I think our expectations are already aligned with what Hyperion are suggesting which is a major reason why we even have this option in the first place. Customer expectations define what the release is labelled. Today, I'd call it a pre-beta release or alpha. At the end of the month, who knows? The developers are working as fast as they can.

They changed their mind on the AmigaOne version only. Not quite an about-face.

This is clearly very worrying. I did not receive any information about him and there is supposed to be a requests process on the Amiga Anywhere website. I shall look into this as a matter of urgency.

I actually emailed Fleecy directly about that as soon as it came up and didn't get a reply. I assumed it was because he was to busy, but perhaps he needs to look into his email setup a bit?

This could mean a lot, or nothing. At best it means that Amiga Developers can obtain early samples of new products, along with access to documents.

I guess I'll only believe it's a relevant partnership when drivers arrive for this
