Software News   Software News : Zeoneo releases "Invasion" for PocketPC
   posted by GuruMeditation on 30-Jun-2004 17:33:43 (7661 reads)
Twenty years ago terror stalked the skies whilst below, humanity cowered in fear. No, we are not talking about 'pouffy' hairstyles, shoulder pads and men wearing mascara. We are talking about Space Invaders.

We thought we had won. We thought they were beaten. Guess what? We were wrong.

In 2004, scientists detected new and strange signals coming from behind the moon. Some laughed, some cried, most ignored ... until it started.

Introducing the must have game for Pocket PC PDA and Windows PC owners from Zeoneo. Featuring:

* Multiple alien craft types, each with their own particular weapons, moves and intelligent behaviour.
* Super weapons, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
* Beautifully rendered locations.
* Unlimited levels.
* The mother of all motherships
* Explosion, smoke, particle special effects and much more.
* Rankings both by score and progress.
* Versions for PocketPC PDAs and Windows personal computers.

These aren't your parent's invaders though. Blocky pixels, the 'march of death' and stupid 'Mep Maw' noises are out of the window. These guys have smartened up. More attack patterns than a Kung Fu master, better looking than a bus full of supermodels and with more tricks up their sleeves than a Vegas magic show, these guys are back and they intend to do the business - in style.

Reviews by different magazines where they get smashing reviews of this 14.85 EUR product:
PDACorps
TekGuru
PocketPC Magazine
Boing Attitude

Can anybody confirm of this is using AmigaDE or not? Neither "Amiga" nor "AmigaDE" are mentioned anywhere on Zeoneo's site.

I loved the quality of this game when Fleecy's son (a beta-tester) demoed this game at last year's 'OS4 on Tour' event held in Bath. I wanna show my support despite preferring a version compatible with OS4... Oh well, good work! Hoping to see the game for AmigaOS4 soon (And being able to run the game within its own screen).

Downloading it right now!

Hi ,I have been running Invasion for just over a week on my laptop, on startup it displays the AmigaAnywhere Logo,I also have Amiga DE player but it appears that Invasion runs on its own,it has it's own Icon and just seems to load from that just like their Crossword Evolution.
Invasion has really impressive graphics and gets quite hectic in the later levels.
Buy it!

Andy

P.S Zeoneo any update on CandyFactory 2

Yep:

That's alot more transparent and thus IMO alot more elegant. However IMO having AmigaAnywhere games running within a customizable AmigaOS screen would still be alot better.

Awsome little game, plays well and the graphics and sounds is super. Too bad it is so small and not a full screen app, but i can live with that. Fun stuff, now go and buy it everyone

You dont have to have AmigaDE either, it is a very transparent solution.

Edit: i meant a seperate DE player, this one is integrated with the games so you dont have to buy two products to play the game. It do pop up that image MikeB showed, good advertising for Amiga.

Hmmm.... That's interesting. I wasn't aware that an AmigaAnywhere game does not require AmigaDE to operate. I wonder what this means, for AmigaDE. So, I guess its like developing a game in .NET where you don't have to pay MS for having used it. I guess Amiga Inc hopes to make money off selling the development kit, because if you can bypass the AmigaDE they sure aren't going to make money off the player. I would really like to see AmigaDE become the .NET of the Amiga and potentially other platforms, especially with its capability of utilising a flavour of Java.

Hi,

DE is certainly in there. These guys are doing their best to get something done for DE.

This is great for them, but until we get DEplayer for AmigaOS then this is really a reason to not buy AmigaOne.....

I wonder if we will ever see Amiga Inc. actually supporting thier Amiga Licensed proj\ect AmigaOne/OS4

Nope. That is if you are talking about integrating AmigaDE into the AmigaOS. I just hope that when Amiga Inc. is out the picture they (next in charge) will drop DE. Don't expect anything from Amiga Inc. anymore. I sure hope that ZeoNeo does have some decent talks with Amiga Inc. They deserve it.

"I wonder if we will ever see Amiga Inc. actually supporting thier Amiga Licensed proj\ect AmigaOne/OS4"

It's no longer their Licenced project. They have sold their rights.

@BigbentheAussie

"Hmmm.... That's interesting. I wasn't aware that an AmigaAnywhere game does not require AmigaDE to operate."

It requires only AmigaAnywhere / AACE. And it is like a subset of AmigaDE.

" I wonder what this means, for AmigaDE. So, I guess its like developing a game in .NET where you don't have to pay MS for having used it."

IIRC, Zeoneo has paid for "bundling" AACE with their games (if they do not have distribution contract with AmigaInc & partners).

" I guess Amiga Inc hopes to make money off selling the development kit,"

Do they sell it?

About getting AACE or AmigaDE to AOS4.... If we want it ... we should ask Amiga Inc guys if there is anything we can do to help. Perhaps if we learn what needs to be done to get intent running on AOS4 and prepare things for that, we might be able to help to get AmigaAnywhere/DE to AOS4.

IIRC, court has ordered AmigaInc to get AmigaDE running on top of Pegasos. It would be insanely stupid if they then would not make it run also on A1 HW (with at least Linux).

No point in there. There are/were a lot of developers wanting to do something but when you don't get nothing you cannot do much. The last thing that came from them was that they focus on AmigaDE/mobile market only. And that was in May.

And also I don't think many people want to get back into the whole thing again if they would ever come up with something. If I hear tomorrow they have a new SDK kit for sale (the latest intent) I would not give a rats ass anymore. Too much scams and all that other smooth tactics stuff.

Thank god we have other companies that do stick to what they say. Yeah that's right, Hyperion and Eyetech. And ZeoNeo, you get my two thumbs up. And if they start doing stuff for OS4 hmm I only got two thumbs.

AmigaInc never did something for AmigaOS 4 and will probably never do.
Remember it's KMOS baby now....
