Software News   Software News : Formerly commercial editor microgolded updated and now a free download
   posted by dietmar on 25-May-2005 8:41:01 (5715 reads)
The microgolded editor is now available as free download. Instead of asking users to pay for it, it is released as sponsored software and contains offline advertising.

About microgolded: microgolded is a small editor. It provides basic editing features, such as undo-redo, folding, macro recording, formatting, auto-case, auto-completion and other basic editor stuff. It is very fast and very configurable. All in one file, no installation.

Registered users can find a new, advertising-free version on the GoldED web site. New features: black-on-white color scheme (optional) and navigation tabs.

Amiga users and dealers interested in advertising software, events, web sites or services in microgolded please contact GoldED support.

EDIT- fixed typo.

Excellent, I look forward to using this!
One question though, is the English version meant to have the German advertising and readme (Anleitung ?) still?

Cheers,
GiGa

@Wiffy

I tried GoldEd, even bought GoldEd AIX when they where available cheaper on eBay and I just can't get along with it.

I think I lasted about 10 minutes trying to use it couldn't get into it. Maybe it's like Opus Magellan and requires a bit more patience to get into, but nope, I've had it for about a year now and it's never been used more than once, which is a shame as it does look really powerful.

I was going to try it on my A1, but the installation broke half way through and, maybe not directly because of GoldEd, my partition on which it was being installed died horribly and I lost a weeks worth of coding.

That, and the fact it looks/sounds and feels like it wants to be on Microsoft Windows (Service Packs, Registries, the terminology etc.) makes me think I'm destined not to use GoldEd.

I appreciate Deitmars dedication to the community though, which I hope he keeps up!

@Slash, I think the latest CD-update (which you can order for 6 Euros or someting) will make the experience on OS4 a bit less painful. Working installation and SDK integration to mention a few things.

@shoe

Nah, I think I'll still give it a miss. StormCs IDE and KingCON see to all of my needs for writing software on my A1.

By the way, GoldED AIX works great with StormC3 (the StormC shell has a GOLDED tooltype and GoldED can completely replace the StormED editor, including the possibility to display StormC breakpoints). So you don't have to stop using it after purchasing StormC. I don't think it works with StormC4 but that is only because I never had the chance to try StormC4. If somebody wants to donate an unused StormC4 package...

10x dietmar

A Question: Is it possible to show a text in vertical even if it is written horizontally? Notepad/Editpad while I write without press return shows text in vertical even if it is really written in horizontal.... If I load a text written in this way with µged it show this text like it is (in horizontal and thus I must scroll horizontally it to read...). Is there a way to show a similar text in all visible µged window without modify it?

You must mean reformatted to the window, in a paragraph sort-of-way? No. It's a line editor.

If you want to load a text into multiple windows, you can do so (there is an option in the main configuration dialog that allows that). I you want to have multiple views into one file, that is not possible. Folding allows to see different parts of a text at the same time.

Hello Dietmar,

I'm a newbie with GoldED, can i use your MicroGoldED as HTML (web) editor ?

And if yes, how about the features in this way ? (for example different color for tag, text, comment and so on ...)

Thanks in advance

@dietmar

Thaks! Nice solution for having it for free.

I'm waiting for my A1 come back from the fix, so i can't try it now.

Is it possible to highlight html tags?

Guys, what do you expect? This is a simple editor. I still want to sell GoldED AIX ;) Which, by the way, is waiting for new owners in this beautiful shop. microgolded is GoldED stripped of filetypes and any feature that goes with that. That means no syntax colors and no plug-ins. It's still a pretty good free editor (I hope). Faster than anything you can download from Aminet if, like me, you are using UAE.

@Dietmar

Okay, I bought GoldED Studio AIX "Developer Edition" a couple of months ago and, apart from an odd hiccup during installation, everything has gone swimmingly.

In the vein of a previous poster is it possible to highlight HTML tags and so on in the Developer Edition version of AIX, or should I upgrade? If is is possible, how? If it's not possible, how much to upgrade from Developer to the full AIX experience?

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.

How about a simple (like MicroGolded) edito only with html highlight and maybe configurables keys and gui button for atomatic funcions? I would buy it for a cheap price, like 20 euro. Maybe you can made it reality without a lot of work (Micro+webworld plugin). Power Pc native maybe (i know it is only an text editor... but hey, it sound better).

Sure, that's possible: Download Philippe Bourdins HTMP/PHP/ASP syntax parser. Its installation is made for an older GoldED version, so do NOT execute that. Just copy the parser to golded:etc/syntax/. The URL is http://www.bourdin.ch/Philippe/Amiga.php

Maybe. The HTML mode of the complete GoldED AIX gives you HTML support beyond syntax parsing. The Tidy plug-in is useful, as is the toolbar. Personally, I prefer Frontpage and only occasionally look at the HTML code. For me, just syntax highlighting would be fine.

Excellent, I'm sure this will make some people's lives a bit easier having a decent editor.

Someone mentioned an 'in between' product, which you may consider GoldEd Dev Edition, but while I'm now a GoldEd AIX owner, that might be something to think about- something 'in between' but still on the more basic side for 20-40euros.

Either way, I hope people give it a try, GoldEd AIX is certainly very nice as well.
