Yes. Stand by on this, all I can say is something is in the works, although slower than preferred.

In the meantime, all I can say is those of you that enjoy people's software, let them know, however you can. If you're able to do a PayPal donation of a few $ to any of the above or other projects- SimpleMail, SFS, YAM, WookieChat, abc-shell, clib2, adtools, or the various MOS and/or AROS projects and bounties, whatever you appreciate...in some cases it means a lot, and without software, we'd all be SOL.

If you can't afford donations, many devs I know are happy to simply know people appreciate their work, and some kind words or an email can get people through those days from Hell.

Anyways, I appreciate the sentiments shown me, but this is all about our developers.

To them, as well as Hyperion and many individuals..

I've programmed in Basic, and I know the difficulty, pain and wonder of coding.... When you press RUN (compile, for C'ers) and you're SURE it's right this time.... then.... ARRRGGGHHHHGRGRGGHHHH!!!! "Guru meditation", maybe, whatever.... IT'S STILL WRONG!!!!!!!! (< --- I love this smiley (smiley? Nothing of the sort!).... That's ME using WINDROSS, any version... )


I've found that programming is it's own reward, and I'm sure it's for others as well. But, that's not the point, is it?


People do this FOR A LIVING as well....

If YOU use their SW, because you need it, or because you enjoy it, it entertains you, or you make considerable amounts of money from it, well, thankatude and $$$ should flow into a certain direction on those basis.


This applies to movies, books, songs and inventions. (Service in restaurants.)

Unfortunately, some people don't see it that way. And, it's greedy corporations as well, that suck up 70 to 90% of the revenue sometimes, and sit and make huge profits off properties from the sixties and even the fifties, when the artist has been long gone. It's pretty ubsurd really.

We keep trying to weigh it, and there's just no real way to do it.....


Oh well, enough of that.


No matter what anyone says, Basic has to exist, and it is good!

But, I've learned from it that, C(++) and assembler must be maddening!!!!

And it's also true what wegster says about support. As a developer it's the bugreports, suggestions and appreciations, in e-mails or on forums, that keeps me going!

Never go by the belief that "someone else has probably already reported this bug" because that is often not true (or I make *very* bugfree software ). Even if you think someone has posted the bugreport you should do it anyway because that only gives me energy to fix it even faster!

Getting money donations isn't that useful unless the developer is very very poor or the donation is very big I think. If someone feels like giving something worth cash it's then better to do like wegster and Dietmar and buy a program, or do like Alan Havlik who sent me a big box or very tasty cookies a long time ago. Thanks!

Great stuff wegster!

I'd like to remind all the software users out there to do something, anything, to acknowledge the remaining developers and welcome any new ones for whatever platform you prefer. Even a simple email would do. Without feedback this hobby gets rather boring and when developers get bored they tend to move on.

In other words, if you can spend the time to read web forums all day I think you can spend a minute to write a quick email to your favourite developer to thank them.

I would just like to echo this post, because I agree with it all.

I don't ask for anything for my programs, but emails from users, with bug reports, suggestions and notes of thanks are always appreciated. It's nice to know that somebody is using the software, and if it wasn't for os4depot's download stats, I would think that nobody was.

As for the last part, I was once sent a fruit cake a long time ago. I'm not a big fan of fruit cake, but this was a bit special and utterly gorgeous (in fact, it came from here). I'm somewhat annoyed that I can't find the name of the gentleman who sent it to me, but it does make me wonder where all the nice Amiga users went.
