Software News   Software News : Poseidon USB Bounty - Double The Cash Promotion
   posted by deadwood on 14-May-2009 15:54:19 (9319 reads)
The Poseidon USB Bounty (http://www.power2people.org/bounty_041.html) is about delivering a complete and working USB stack to AROS. So far we have reached 2180$ out of our goal donation of 4000$. Thank you :)

But more money is needed to reach our goal donation! How to get it faster? Let me make you an offer: for every donation you put in the bounty for the next 3 weeks, a matching donation will be made until 4000$ are reached. Nice, ain't it? You donate once, but help twice :)

Read more...

Why should you put money in the bounty if you are not AROS user you ask? Well, getting USB for AROS is only part of the deal. The other part is releasing the Poseidon source codes under an open source license, meaning the same codes can later be recompiled for your system, be it MorphOS or AmigaOS... just imagine one working standard for all Amiga-like OSes... it's worth putting some dollars in my opinion!

So don't waste time and donate: http://www.power2people.org/bounty_041.html. Remember, every donation counts (and it counts twice for the next 3 weeks)!

i do not understand a word about the deal. somehow it contradicts itself. what does it mean: matching donation? it isnt very likely people will now donate $1000 within 3 weeks, if you mean you would substitute the rest. please elaborate. opensourcing poseidon could be an admirable task, i thought already of supporting it. on the other hand i fear chris hodges might loose interest in maintaining it and none would take over.

Let's assume you donate 10$ tomorrow (and appears on the bounty web page). Then a matching donation of 10$ will be made to the bounty.
This will continue as long as 3 weeks last or 4000$ total is reached.

@deadwood
Are you aware your user profile is blank?

I think those donating their hard earned money should at least know who is pushing them to donate. Especially when you are talking about such large amounts of money.

@ssolie

Yes, I am aware my profile here at amigaworld.net is a newbie one. I'm more active at aros-exec.org
I also understand it will require a vote of confidence from people. Donate a small amount and check it for yourself :)

I agree that this was more than a fair question to ask. That said, out of curiosity Steven, If deadwood does indeed match my $20, will you donate anything?

In case people are interested to know, and to hopefully install a little faith in people, Deadwood has been very active in the AROS community. He's the man responsible for AROS version of MPlayer, and also AROS version of Eternal Lands amongst other things.

hello,

Chris is OK for a AOS3.X, AOS4.x and morphOS version ?????

Because donator could be found but some for each platform. Myself I'm interested for a aos3 and 4 version and other for morphos version or aros.

The source codes are meant to be released under AROS Public License, meaning once this is done anyone can get them from AROS repository and compile then for his/her system (I assume there will be some minor additional work needed for the codes to work with AmigaOS/MorphOS) . Actually you can do that with every piece of AROS source codes - APL is a very permissive license :)

I would be interested in Poseidon for AmigaOS4 and also like to see AROS evolve.

Don't have the time to read the Aros public license right now but if this means Poseidon becomes open sourced I will make a donation within 3 weeks

It's certainly a nice gesture from Deadwood!!

EDIT: Made a donation

Chris will be doing the AROS and release the code in Open Source... I guess it won't be that much work to port it to the other Am*ga Architectures...

OK. I haven't seen than chris hodges is assigned for the AROS version allready (without the $4000).

That mean really chris is OK for AOS4 or morphOS version ????

Maybe if an AOS4 programmer could be asigned on the project also, the bounty will be fullfilled with speed ????
