| ImageFX is indeed a great program, I first started using it on my classic, & now on my A1. I'd be lost without it.
However, Aladdin for OS4 was announced at the 07' Amiwest show, almost 2 years ago & still no s/w. Most would write it off as vaporware by now. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

Development is ongoing. remember we have to change the codebase to be multi platform and have to add raytracing. Aladdin 4D was not a raytracer but will be in the future. Also, the code was not as portable as once thought (not our fault) so major parts are being rewritten. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer.

Good to hear, didn't know the port was that complex so I'll be patient a bit more. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

| ImageFX is indeed great, having to use GIMP is driving me potty! It's very powerful I'm sure, but simple things like how ImageFX handles alpha channels makes it that much more useful to me! I bought it and don't regret it! _________________ BroadBlues On Blues BroadBlues On Amiga Walker Broad

| Will become even more outdated if it takes 3 years to be ported (rewritten)... Is the original author(s) working on it ? Guess that would help...
Is he working on it fulltime ? _________________ http://www.warpdesign.fr/

You hit the nail on the head. New programmers getting familer with another programmers code and the original code was only intened for Amiga OS 3.1 with Cybergraphix. New features being added too. Last edited by DiscreetFX on 19-Aug-2009 at 06:58 AM.

| I don't mean to be ironic - and I certainly think Nova Design did a lot for us - but if they updated ImageFX after all those years, I would go and join you in saying that they "push the Amiga forward". Currently, they are a seller of legacy graphics software, not an innovator (and innovation is what you wish to support, isn't it?). _________________ The Rear Window blog

| I use ImageFX quite a bit, only to do simple things as I never got into the complexities of it despite Cecilia's useful tutorial CD.
However is IFXt actually currently being developed ?
There has not been an update for years - and the last update had a borked installer that did not work with OS4 withut a lot of fiddling about. Nor has there been an OS4 version.
So though Nova were once a great Amiga developer, like many others that have left the scene they seem not to do too much of anything today.
Of course I would love to be proven wrong and a new version of IFX running natively on OS4.x arrive soon. |

| Seems to me both guys are exchanging money using outdated software as an excuse...
I didn't see any single new product coming from either.
So many vapor announcements... reminds me of the buy-out of Magellan sources to produce an OS4 version years ago... only a few years of ASM needed to be removed... a few years ago, and still nothing came out of it.
Now DiscreetFX keeps on making announcements... as if it was a real company, producing things,... but nothing new ever came out. We saw price reduction on existing stuff, for sure. We also heard every product would now be distributed on USB key. But since there's no product.
Reminds me of Amiga Inc. very much. Oh, and they also announced they would try to buyout Amiga Inc btw :)
Now, how serious is that ? Last edited by Leo on 19-Aug-2009 at 09:42 AM.

| @BillE et al.,
I agree that ImageFX needs some updating; however, the hesitation on the part of any Amiga "for profit" company to release software for the small user base of OS4.x is somewhat understandable. Selling a fully updated ImageFX for both OS4.x and MorphOS would increase the user base, but not by much. The cost of developing for both systems may be more than the return gained by selling it to users of both systems. With that being said, there could be workarounds.
The option some within the community want is open source. However, open source sometimes dies within the small developer base of the Amiga community. We do not need more open source, but more committed developers. We need a committed developer to work on ImageFX. That developer exists in the form of a "for profit" company interested in keeping the majority of its work in house.
I think that Nova could possibly sell add on packs for OS3/4.x and MorphOS. One addon could be a WarpOS version of their hooks & modules to replace the 68k reliant PowerUP versions. WarpOS can be used in OS3.x and OS4.x (via the wrapper).
What other addons or innovations could Nova Design add to ImageFX?

No way him. The job is doing over AmiCygnix is trully AWESOME and I do not want to see AmiCygnix stall in development because of ImageFX, although I agree that we need one developer to work only for ImageFX. _________________

Correct me if I'm wrong but TriCaster isn't an Amiga-based product, nor does it run or can be controlled using the Amiga... _________________ http://www.warpdesign.fr/
